President's Message

Dear Club Members and Friends,

What a great night we had on Friday at Fournos.  Thanks to David for organising the venue, a great set menu and the get to know you activity.  Amazing what you can learn about someone by asking just a couple of questions.  It was wonderful to have Ann, Carolin, Gwen, Gita, Mark, the two Ians, Kevin, Maggie, Mike, Ana of course, and Josh, James and Jen with us.  Our friends and partners add a wonderful dimension to our Club.

This Thursday is the annual North Ryde Community Aid lunch for their elderly clients.  A few of us will help set up, serve the meal and of course wash up.  The NRCA clients look forward to this event every year.  We were successful in getting a $1,250 grant towards the cost of the meal and I believe Pat has organised small gifts.  This will be the first year Pat is not at the lunch as she had a cataract operation on Monday.  All has gone well but she is currently seeing double.  I did suggest that two of Steve might be too much to handle.

While considering the sick list, Binoe is improving and hopes to be at the meeting on Friday.  Julie Stone-Powell is improving slowly.  Brian will keep us informed.  Our thoughts are with them both.

Friday is the AGM.  Please consider what your role could be in 2018/19.  There’ll be six months when those currently in the roles will be happy to mentor you.  We will also be voting on the proposals to go to the Rotary Council on Legislation next year.  Pam Wood sent out the information earlier in the week.

We need to firm up helpers for The Tree of Joy Cox’s Rd BBQ on 16 December and the Carols on 17 December.  I will definitely have my roster there this Friday.

This will also be an important meeting as Ana will give her presentation about her year in Australia.  It will be Ana’s last formal meeting.  Josh will also be along to officially receive his blazer.

Anna’s parents will be in Sydney for Sunday 7 January 2018.  I thought we might have brunch somewhere like Eden Gardens.  Say 9:30 am.  It may be an opportunity for Joe and Juliet and Nadia and Asim to bring their little ones as well as others in the Club with young children.  We’ll send out official information next week.

After the Carols, we will break for a few weeks then start the new year officially with breakfast at Caffe Incontro at Cox’s Mall on 19 January 2018.

See you Friday.

Kind regards
Victoria Crawford

RYLA 2018 Dinner Invitation to all Rotarians and their Partners
As happens every year, the RYLA program of 2018 includes a formal dinner for RYLA participants and the Rotarians of their sponsoring clubs. It is an important part of the RYLA experience, and an opportunity for us to show our sponsored young leaders that RYLA is a program which we as Rotarians hold in high regard. It is also a chance to get to know your sponsored participants better, and invite them to your club meetings to talk about their RYLA experience or as potential new members.

It would be great if we could have a strong turnout of District 9685 Rotarians. Partners and guests, including the parents and family of sponsored participants, are more than welcome.

The formal dinner will be held on Tuesday 9th January 2018 at Miramare Gardens, Terrey Hills. The event commences at 6.30 pm and will conclude at approximately 10.30 pm. The cost is $50 per person and includes a two-course meal. Our guest speaker will be Michael Regan, Mayor of Northern Beaches Council.

If you wish for family and/or friends to attend, please provide their names, Club association and any dietary requirements to RYLA dinner coordinator, Raylene Jarvis of Upper Northern Beaches Rotary Club. Her contact email is raylene2@iprimus.com.au

Payment for the dinner can be made by direct deposit:

Westpac BSB: 032 086
Account no.: 333 127

Please complete payment by December 31st and send an email to Raylene when a direct deposit payment has been made.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact myself or Raylene.

                    E-CLUB CHRISTMAS E-CARDS SUPPORTING INTERPLAST

Dear Friends,

Following the many years of traditional Rotary Christmas cards, we’ve launched the modern, efficient, environmentally-friendly version – CHRISTMAS E-CARDS!!
Proceeds from the sale of our e-cards support Interplast in rebuilding bodies and rebuilding lives in the Asia-Pacific region.
Recipients of the e-cards you choose will see our Rotary and Interplast logos when they open their cards.
You and your club members and/or friends can take advantage of this service by going to our website at http://ryderotary.org.au/e-club-ecards and following the instructions there.
We hope you will join us in this initiative to support a really good cause, and to further demonstrate that e-clubs really can do just about anything conventional clubs can do.

Yours in Rotary,
Rob Mitchell
