President's Message

Dear Club Members and Friends,

Barbara Lee went to the Combined Services Dinner on Wednesday night.  She gave a rundown on the different projects we have so that other clubs have a bit of an idea of what we do.  Thanks Barbara, it is great when members of the Club can get out there and promote us.

At the Board meeting we discussed what likely money we would have to distribute at the end of the year and also an update on our projects.  The IT visit is fast approaching and Terrie McConnell has been busy trying to get the other Rotary clubs and schools on board.  Pam Wood and David Martin have been approaching companies about interest and availability in having the students visit.  We still need a couple of people who can host the students.  If you aren’t able to do so but have a neighbour who could maybe you could sound them out.  Anyone involved in the program must have a Working with Children Check which can be done quite quickly on line.

The meeting with the colleges about the fun run went very well.  They had some good ideas about improving the event and it was wonderful to welcome Morling College on board with Fredrick Chege joining us.  Definitely a future RYLARian there.

The other activity that is approaching is the Changeover on Friday 23 June.  If we are to have any Pride of Workmanship awards we need to get the information out to companies.  Please think about your current and past work places and consider if they are a possibility.

We have a Club Assembly on Friday 21 April in our usual meeting time.  I want to look at what we are doing with the results of the visioning exercise and all our projects and see if we have members who can participate and therefore if we have the capacity to deliver.  That will be a busy hour!

PETS (President Elect Training Session) was on the whole interesting.  It was good to get to know a couple of the other presidents for next year.  I had a long chat with Shayne Dumbrell, Macquarie Park, about some strategies for the Carols as our income decreases and expenses increase.  There was also a lot of new information re insurance which increases our need to undertake risk analysis and submit information about each activity in order to obtain cover.

This Sunday, 9 April, is the Lindfield Rotary Club fun run starting at Roseville Oval.  Might be a good idea if a couple of us could go and have a look.

Helen Crouch, CEO of North Ryde Community Aid, is our guest speaker this week – always great to learn more about their work.  And of course we celebrate this week welcoming our new member Mandy Van.  Really looking forward to cementing a friendship.

See you Friday

Best regards
