President's Message

Dear Club Members and Friends,

Remember there is no meeting this week as it is the fifth Friday.

We had a great night last Friday to celebrate Ana’s birthday at Griil’d.  There were about 19 people, I think including Danica, a friend of Nadia and Asim’s and of course Yaha.  It was lovely to meet Danica and I hope she joins us for other activities.  It was also really good to have Josh, James and Jen Nowiczewski, Maggie Alexander, Mike Hetherington, Carolin Wilkinson, Juie Stone-Powell and Gwen Martin join us.  Always enjoyable to have a relaxed meal with friends and David did a great job ensuring our order was collated correctly.  Our jar had the most caps when we got to Grill’d.  Let’s hope we keep that advantage during this week.

We spent some time at the Board discussing the survey results.  We’ll send out the results and discuss what we do with the information at the Club Assembly on 10 November.  We briefly heard from Pam W and Sandeep about the Board training they attended.  Both said it was very good.  We’ll provide the main points again for 10 November.  District may run another session and if so I’ll let you know the date for those who may be interested.

Now that the council has agreed to support the carols to the same level as past years we can continue planning.  We are still seeking sponsorship so if you have any contacts let me know.  Please put aside the date 17 December as there will be jobs for everyone – setting up, selling food tickets, BBQing, serving food, selling candles and glo sticks, collecting for the charity buckets, pulling down and cleaning up.  Of course there is some work beforehand such as putting up banners, distributing flyers, sourcing supplies, transporting our equipment from the lockup etc.  Adam Smallhorn from Macquarie Park Club is managing the marketing.  Have a look at facebook and the website www.carolsonthecommon.org.au.

The President’s meeting focused on the Peace Conference in March 2018, working with PCYC, supporting paint4freedom which is a nationwide art competition to raise awareness of modern slavery, World Polio Day 24 November and the reporting of service hours and donations in Rotary Central.

We also talked about next year’s District Conference, Saturday 10 to Sunday 11 March 2018 in Leura.  For details go to – conference2018.rotarydistrict9685.org.au.  Full registration $280.  Accommodation extra.
