President's Message

Dear Club Members and Friends,

Welcome to 2017 and an exciting time with Rotary. We had a very pleasant and relaxing breakfast at Seb's last Friday. It was great to meet baby Joy and see how Juliet and Joe are managing with their two delightful children. Good too, to see Kevin and Barbara, who unfortunately had another bout in hospital in early January. As always Kevin is helping her get back on her feet. And of course wonderful that Annette is improving and could also join us.

Unfortunately Brian will be away for awhile as he has some surgery scheduled for next week. Julie has also not been well so it will be a difficult time for them. Mak is still in Brisbane but should be back in February.

We have decided to postpone the Golf Day as preparations needed a
little more time. It looks like it will be Friday 20 October.  Garry,
Rob and Sharon will give us more details.

At our meeting this Friday we'll discuss the projects and activities we think we might pursue.  As usual we will need to look at our resources and decide what we can achieve.  It may be that some of our projects will need to include other clubs to ensure their success. This has worked well with the carols which were again a great success
despite problems with the wet grounds.  Thank you to all who were ableto help.  We had over 15 helpers which was great.  We'll have final financial results very soon.

Liane is very busy with a young ROMAC patient.  Christella Tekon is from Vanuatu.  She has had skin grafts done on her legs which burnt when she impatiently  jumped in the hot water as her family prepared her bath.  Liane has sent some photos which have been attached to this Bulletin.

District is looking for more Rotarians to attend the conference.  They need to know numbers by 31 January.  The conference is on Saturday 11 March at Penrith. It is one day only.  Please let me know if you have registered or intend to register.

This week is busy for Pam Bennet as Sam leaves for Sweden on Friday and Pam will go out to the airport.  She is not sure yet when Ana, our new exchange student arrives.
A big thanks to David who picked up our RYLA students from the camp as Pam had other commitments.  We'll hear from them soon.

We'll have a draft calendar to review on Friday.  Then we can see how our year will shape up.

See you then.

Best regards
Victoria Crawford

Places available in 2017 RLI Courses - REGISTER TODAY!

The Rotary Leadership Institute is proving to be a great Club strengthening resource, benefiting everyone from newer members to "old hands".  I have previously advertised the first two courses for 2017 and we have some registrations, but too few to warrant running the courses.  There is still time to register and take advantage of this great opportunity to participate, learn and share.

Courses for early 2017 are:

RLI 37 runs Sundays 22 January, 19 February and 19 March

RLI 39 runs Saturdays 4 February, 18 February and 18 March

Register at rli.rotarydistrict9685.org.au

Rotarians who have partially completed earlier RLIs and wish to do individual parts should contact PDG Ian Scott for registration by response to this email.

The three part course is held  at our District Office, Thornleigh. Morning tea and lunch are provided.  Each day starts at 8:30am for 9:00am and finishes around 3:45pm.

Until further notice, District is bearing the full cost as part our training budget - it is free.

Regards,

Ian
