It was a pleasure to hear all about our newest member, Mandy Van’s life and work stories last Friday. It is always interesting to hear from our own members and find out how interesting their lives have been and still are. Mandy came to Australia as a school girl, on her own and has stayed to become a most valuable member of the community. It is great to have Mandy in the club and we look forward to getting to know her even more over the time ahead.
Don’t forget our dine below the line event on July 28th at Vicki and Ian’s place in Hunters Hill. I think you all know the drill. We need to make the donation before the end of June. Brian will be at the student dinner and that might be a good time to let him have some cash, if you have said you will come along or have committed to donate anyway. If I have not heard from you I may well ask at the student dinner, if I remember!
The students have been with us now since Sunday evening. Thanks to Shankar and Sandeep for the doing the pickups at Strathfield and Central. They are a great bunch this year, as they are every year.
Thanks to Brian for helping with the visits to Optus, Oracle and Coles Distribution warehouse at Eastern Creek on Monday. Three very different businesses, but all with interesting aspects to them.
Today was a pretty hectic day on the trains and shank’s pony. Thanks to Pam Wood for helping with the visits to UTS, Cisco and IBM. All of these companies give up a great chunk of time and resources to ensure the students have an interesting and educational visit. It is fantastic that they are prepared to do this for us.
We have another two jam packed days and then the farewell dinner on Thursday night at North Ryde Community Aid. It is always a great night.
This Friday there is no regular meeting, as we have a board meeting. Anyone is welcome to attend at DLC 7.15am to 8.45am. It is a good opportunity for new members to see a bit of what goes on with the running of the club.
Next Friday we will have Robert Jordan talking about ovarian cancer. We are also looking forward to inducting Binoe as a member of the club on the 2nd of June. The following week Ana is going to tell us all about her amazing safari adventure. On the 16th of June Mak Khalil will tell us about his life and work.
Please remember changeover is getting close. Check your cupboards for raffle items and let me know if you can make it on the 23rd of June.
