President's Message

Dear Club Members and Friends,

I hope you have all had a good week.  Thank you again for all your good wishes.  Friday afternoon was a lovely celebration of my mum’s life and lovely to have all the family and friends with us.

This Friday 27 October is a Board meeting at DLC 7:15 am till 8:45 am.  Everyone is welcome to attend but please let David know for catering purposes.  We won’t have a social night this month.

It was really good to hear from Josh about his plans for next year’s exchange.  Two languages, Swedish and Finnish will be a challenge but he has already started lessons.  Ana filled us in on her move to Asquith and starting year 12 studies.  She has been able to change a few subjects which she is excited about.

Helen Crouch, CEO of North Ryde Community Aid, explained Timebanking.  If we join up as individuals and log the hours we spend on community activities then we will be able to access assistance from others who wish to volunteer so join up today if you have not already done so.  Go to timebanking.com.au/home/Ryde.  I have joined although have not yet worked out how to enter hours.

Once you become a Timebanking member, you are able to search through all the offers of assistance and requests for assistance made by other members. If you see someone's offer or request that you could complete, or that you would find useful, you simply contact that person to arrange the completion of the service.

Following completion of the task, the person who provided the service logs on to www.timebanking.com.au and registers the number of hours it took. The system then completes the exchange of time between the members involved. Of course, if any mistakes are made about the amount of time exchanged, your local Timebanking provider can correct the mistake. For more information on Timebanking or any questions you may have, please contact Kate on 9888 3380.

In the recent e-news you would have seen the article from District Governor Peter Ward in regard to the ROTARY FRIENDSHIP EXCHANGE between our district and District 3232 from Chennai South India between 16th-19th of November.

The Rotary Club of The Hills-Kellyville is hosting a dinner for the visiting RFE Team on behalf of our district at the Pennant Hills Golf Club of Friday 17th of November.  If you are interested in attending you can get information from their Facebook event page– click here or see the brochure in this bulletin.

Next year’s District Conference is on Saturday 10 to Sunday 11 March 2018 in Leura.  For details go to – www.conference2018.rotarydistrict9685.org.au.  Full registration $280.  Accommodation extra.  This should be a great conference and it is always great to get away together so think about whether you’d like to come along.  Partners are always welcome and as a previous resident of Leura I’d encourage you to come and discover more about our wonderful Blue Mountains.  Early bird registration closes end of November.

We will host DG Peter Ward at our next meeting on 3 November.  We’ll let him know a bit about us and he’ll give a rundown on district priorities.  Should be a good meeting.

Pam Wood will be away for November and won’t be able to prepare the weekly bulletin.  It is created through Club runner and is not too hard to do.  It would be great if someone could take it in for the month.  Please let me know if you are interested.
