President's Message

Dear Club Members and Friends,

Wow!  What a great day on Sunday! Thanks again to all Club members and their partners who worked on the day and those who contributed beforehand.  David did a great job as Project Director and Gwen worked tirelessly with him before, during and after the event.

As well as Club members we had Ryde President Julie Thorp and her husband Stephen as well as Ryde’s exchange student from Norway helping out as marshals.  Russell Green, a colleague of Shankar’s, worked with us as Project Manager and did a good job on his first Rotary BBQ on Sunday – looked as though he’d been doing it for years.  Helen Bessier from East Ryde Scouts volunteered on registration and is really keen to be involved next year. (we gave the scouts the extra sausages and drinks.)  Damien Azzopardi from Rotaract was our fabulous MC.  Halfway through he said he had never done anything like it before!  Well he was the consummate professional so he may want to consider a career change.

We are still wrapping up the finances but we certainly have a profit of more than $10,000.  There should be an article with pictures in Wednesday’s Northern District Times.  It is really helpful to be developing some strong relationships with different journalists on the paper.

Sharon has taken some stunning photos and will give us a slide show of them on Friday.  Asim will be our guest speaker demonstrating how to use our technology so he might be able to give us a lesson on how to upload them.

Mitchell Stubs (Rotaract) is joining us on Friday as well so give him a warm welcome.  He also worked at the Fun Run as a marshal and in packing up.  Ever since he went to RYPEN about four years ago he has helped us and shown true selfless service as a Rotarian in Interact and now in Rotaract.

I can’t list everything and everyone who contributed and I apologise if I have not acknowledged you but Annette did a sterling job leading our sponsorship, Rocky our marketing, Asim for the IT, Liane managed the registration on the day with Ann FitzGibbon doing the money and Annette and Helen working with her and Sandeep registration beforehand and finance.  Garry and Rob managed the setup on the field and the BBQ with the extra expertise of Pam W, Gwen and Terrie.  Pam W led the onion peeling and cutting – massive thank you.  Shankar and Gita helped David with the identification of winners – bit of a hard job with a few photo finishes.  Pam B was ready for ay enquiries about Rotary and Pat, Bev and Steve were selling watches.  And many of the above helped set up early in the day and of course filling the goodie bags and transporting them to the field.

We have had some great feedback from participants and enquiries from people who want to work with us next year so if we are going to run it next year planning will start very soon.. But for now a little bit of relaxation but don’t forget the Carols 18 December so another concerted effort will be needed then.

Have a good rest, enjoy Asim’s presentation and have a good week.

Best regards
Victoria Crawford
Club President 2016-17

Emergency - Deadly Earthquake Strikes Italy

ShelterBox Australia

ShelterBox is proud to be a Project Partner of Rotary International

A major earthquake struck central Italy in the early hours of yesterday morning. The aftershocks continue.

The town of Amatrice, just one of many hit by the quake, has been completely destroyed. At least 70 people have lost their lives, while many more are trapped under the rubble.

Hundreds of families may be left without shelter. We urgently need your help to reach families in Italy, and elsewhere around the world. We must always be ready - you can help us provide ShelterBoxes, ShelterKits, tents and much more.

A team of ShelterBox response volunteers is travelling to the country right now to establish the extent of the damage and assess how we may be able to help.

Please give what you can today to help families whose lives have been utterly devastated - wherever they are in the world.

You can make a difference, please ......

Please share our message on FaceBook and Twitter

Many thanks for your continued support.
