President's Message

Dear Club Members and Friends,

Last week we debriefed on the fun run.  There was some really useful feedback that we can feed into the event next year.  It was good that there was such a positive answer to “will we do it again”.  We’ll have to get a committee together soon to start the ball rolling for 2018 so we can ensure that we put the feedback into practice.

As part of our fundraising for the fun run Grill’d at Macquarie Centre have made us one of their charities for the month.  If you are planning a meal out consider going to Grill’d and putting a token in our jar.  Let friends and neighbours know as well.

This Friday we have Krissie Webb talking to us about attracting and keeping younger members into the club.  This should be very interesting and probably challenging.

Don’t forget the Eastwood Gladesville trivia night this Saturday 9 September.  See Barbara if you want to attend.

Hunters Hill Club has Clive Small speaking at their meeting 6:30pm on Wednesday 13 September at Gladesville Sporties Club.  Clive is an ex-Deputy Police Commissioner who has always been outspoken about law and order.  If interested contact Roger O’Dwyer on rogerodwyer@ozemail.com.au.

Last call for those who wish to go to Jazz in the Arboretum on Sunday 1 October at Pearl Beach.  Simon Tedeschi and The George Washing Machine band are playing.  Tickets are $40 if I can get more than 10 people ($45 otherwise).  Children are $25.  Please let me know on Friday as I will buy tickets that afternoon.

If you haven’t returned your survey form about our club it would be good if you could so we can discuss the ideas at the board and at a club assembly.

David is flying back on 11 September.  It will be great to see him.  I hope he can feel our very distant hugs as he deals with a difficult week.

I went through the program with everyone last week.  I’ll include it here so you can see what we have planned for the rest of the year:
15 September – Principals from local schools
22 September – Board meeting – social night for Ana’s birthday
29 September – no meeting
1 October – Jazz at Pearl Beach
6 October – Sergio Dos-Santos, Acting Consul General Timor-Leste
13 October – Shelley Whittington – Destiny Rescue
20 October – possibly NRCA about Time Banking
27 October – Board meeting – Social night
3 November – Bob Kaye-Smith – Rotary Foundation
10 November – Helen Rainger - Palestine
17 November – TBA
24 November – Board Meeting
1 December – End of year party
8 December – AGM
16 December – BBQ Cox’s Rd
17 December – Carols

See you Friday.

Kind regards
Victoria Crawford
President 2017-18

Stories
Yay! You are on this September!

We’ve been selected to participate in Local Matters at Grill’d Macquarie Centre this September!

Local Matters is the Grill’d community donation program that sees each Grill’d restaurant donate $500 back into the community every month. The donation is split between 3 local community groups $300 / $100 / $100.

HOW YOU CAN HELP?

We’d love your support in receiving the highest $300 donation! Simply head to Grill’d Macquarie Centre during September for a burger and pop your Local Matters token in our jar. The group with the most tokens at the end of the month receives the largest donation.

It’s a simple (and delicious) way to show your support!

You’ll find us on a jar at Grill’d Macquarie Centre, Macquarie Centre Lvl 4 via Herring St
North Ryde.

Rotary Leadership Institute - Places still available

We still have spaces available on RLI 43, being run on Sundays 10 September, 24 September and 8 October 2017.

This is an opportunity for your members to power up their Rotary knowledge, build networks that can assist you and your club with projects and events, and be inspired by the possibilities in our Rotary world.

Course fee is $75*.

The three part course is held at our District Office, Thornleigh. Morning tea and lunch are provided.  Each day starts at 8:30 for 9:00am and finishes around 3:45pm.

Registration is done online at rli.rotarydistrict9685.org.au

* The fee covers direct participant costs.  Rotarians who have partially completed RLIs prior to today and wish to do individual parts should contact PDG Ian Scott for registration by response to this email; the cost for catch up sessions is $20.

Both years this has run, it has been a fun night. We cater for those who do not know how to play poker with lessons from 6pm on the night OR invite me to one of your meetings.
