Dear Club Members and Friends,

What a great speaker last week. Chris Joscylene, long time Rotarian, on the ROMAC Board and an expert in domestic cyber security as MD of Australian Projects, opened our eyes to the security issues we face with protecting our data. No more leaving computers connected to the Internet overnight or clicking on that enticing news feed. Gremlins, or cookies, abound.

The Fun Run is next Sunday 28 August. We have quite a few registrations but not as many as we would like. Let's hope the surge starts soon. Several other clubs have promised runners and some are helping as marshals and on the BBQ. It is great when we can work with other Clubs - shows that true Rotary fellowship.

Planning started last week for the carols. If you would like to join the committee let me know. There are only four meetings leading up to 18 December.

A few other dates to pop in your diary - Sunday 2 October 2:30 pm, Jazz at Pearl Beach, $40 - for those interested.
Tuesday 4 October 6:30 pm, DG visit for all Riverside Clubs at New Generations Ryde, $35. This will be a transfer meeting and would be good if as many as possible can attend. We will RSVP as a club and pay as a club so when committing to attendance it would be great if you could pay.

If you haven't paid your annual half year or full year fees it would be appreciated if you could.

Well it will be a busy week as we do final preparations for the Fun Run. Thank you all for supporting us to this point and looking forward to a great night next Friday Terrie's packing goodie bags and fun at the Fun Run.

2016 Ryla Ball

The 2016 Ryla Ball will be held on Saturday 3 September at the Epping Club. Tickets are $99 per person. For more information see flyer.

Rotary Leadership Institute - New Courses Available

The success of Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) in District 9685 is because it delivers skills and knowledge that Rotarians can apply straight away in their clubs. RLI hones leadership skills, builds Rotary knowledge, gives a perspective about where Rotary has been and where it is now, and shares a vision of what Rotary can be. This is all done while networking with Rotarians from other clubs and providing opportunities for partnering in service.

The three part course is held on Saturdays or Sundays at our District Office, Thornleigh. Morning tea and lunch are provided. Each day starts at 8:30 for 9:00am and finishes around 3:45pm.

Until further notice, District is bearing the full cost as part of its training budget.

Courses 36 (Saturdays) and 37 (Sundays) are open for registration:

RLI 36 runs 20 August, 17 September, 1 October

RLI 37 runs 18 September, 9 October, 30 October

Rotarians who have partially completed earlier RLIs should contact PDG Ian Scott for registration.

Looking for 2016-17 District Treasurer

I am asking for nominations for the role of Treasurer for District 9685 for the Rotary Year 2017 – 2018.

Maintaining transparent financing and good stewardship makes sure that clubs remain in proper financial standing with RI and the district. The District Treasurer supervises district funds and prepares annual reports on the status of the district’s finances.

The District Treasurer also:

· Creates a district budget in cooperation with the Governor to be submitted to clubs at least four weeks before the President-Elect Training seminar or the District Assembly.

· Ensure that proper income and expense records are kept.

In addition to your Rotary experience (having been Club Treasurer), you will ideally have an accounting background.

There will be handover and ongoing support from the Current Treasurer – Peter Ainscow – and you’ll be working within an experienced team. Come join us.
