Hello everyone,
Welcome to our latest bulletin.
Our wonderful little club members have been very busy putting some wonderful ideas into action.
Thank you to everyone who is workingon their projects, and the club fundraising initiatives.
Congratulations again to team trivia for a wonderful night. It is with great pride that I say we raised over $5000.00 for our club's Youth projects for the next year. Well done to all that attended.
To open the sponsoring, Winter RYEN applications are now open. I have sent invitations to the principals of both Marsden High and Ryde Secondary College, to put forward their nominees to attend. RYPEN is open to year 9-10 students. It is a weekend of learning, camaraderie, and self-development, as well as reflection for the participants. It is also a wonderful event for the students to first hear about Rotary cultural exchange programs, that are offered.
Exchange is a wonderful experience, where the student goes to another country, and therefore, another culture, to live for 12 months. They live with a family, attend a local high school, and can experience all sorts of adventures. May I ask that you consider family or friends that may have children who are eligible for this wonderful cultural experience of a lifetime, who may want to experience this? There are twelve months of training involved before the student goes away, for the family and the participant. Rotary support the student here and a Rotary Club will host and support the student in the country they go to.
Our own exchange student, Currito, is having a wonderful time, and is becoming more Aussie every day. If you want to talk to him directly, about all things exchange, please let me know. I will arrange that.
Our District 9685 conference is being held this Friday and Saturday,15-16 March 2024, at Terrigal. Both Pete and I are very excited to be attending. We always come home with more ideas on projects that help our country and countries overseas. Especially those experiencing unrest, or a natural disaster, as well as those who need help with easing the effects of poverty. Rotary is truly a fantastic worldwide club to be associated with.
There will be a walk to raise awareness of the need to say NO to domestic violence, on Friday 15 March, around Terrigal, that we are all invited to join in. The cost is $20.00 with all funds raised to go towards research into decreasing this horrible plight on society. Please wear your purple T-shirts if you have them. Our DG, Christine Owen, initiated this project for every club to become involved. We thank her for her enthusiasm to get us all involved.
The Gala dinner theme is a beach party, so this will be a fun night, I am sure. It will be very interesting to see everyone’s interpretation of dressing for a beach party. Remember, what happens at Gala stays at Gala. It is also a great opportunity to meet friends and make new ones, in a fun environment.
Our exchange organisers have planned for the students to be billeted with local Rotary families for the conference. Thank you so much to those families. On Sunday the 17t March, Currito, and his friends on exchange here, will travel to Canberra, to experience all things ACT. They have a jam-packed itinerary planned, and I am sure, we will hear of this big adventure in Curritos’ next club report.
Have a great time everyone.
Until next time,
Cheers
Bernie.
