PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Happy 121st Birthday to the Rotary Foundation, celebrated on 23 February 2026.
At our Club Assembly on 20 February, it was a pleasure to induct our newest and enthusiastic young member, Maxwell Ponza. Welcome aboard, Maxwell! see photos here

We were also delighted to hear from our guest speaker, Rana Ensor, Acting CEO of KidsXpress, another beneficiary of our upcoming eFun Run project. Joining us as well were our partners from the Rotary Club of Macquarie Park, President Trina and Heather, who share in our goals and upcoming initiatives.

A big thank you to our hardworking team for another successful Bunnings BBQ—and to Bunnings for supplying the BIG FAN that kept us cool on a very warm day. see photos here

On 26 February, we congratulated Imogen Hanrahan, recipient of the 2026 Dunmore Lang College Scholarship Award, proudly sponsored by our club. Bernie represented us at the presentation ceremony at Macquarie University. Also present were Dr. Rebecca Bachmann, Lecturer in Accounting and former Rotary Youth Exchange Student; Dr. Prashan Kareunaratne, Senior Lecturer at the Macquarie Business School; and Claudine Alame, NSW/ACT State Director for Red Frogs Australia. see photos here

As we move into March, we recognise Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Month.
A reminder that our Trivia Night will be held on 7 March—we hope to see many of you there!

A Visit to Steven Perrin By Rob Wilkinson
I met Phill Isaacs this morning (23 Feb) at the Seven Hills Nursing Home, to visit Steve Perrin, who has been there for about the past month.
It seems he had a couple of bad falls at home – where he has been living by himself – so the family collectively decided he should go into care.
The family has a history of owning and operating various nursing homes, and Pat’s daughter (Collette) had been managing the facility at Seven Hills, hence the decision for him to go there. Pat is also there, and has been for the past few years.
Steve is in good shape, and accepting of the need for him to be there, even though missing his glass of wine or two!!
Phill and I also visited Pat, who is suffering advanced dementia! She said she recognised our faces, but I don’t think she really knew just who we were! Very sad to see her in that state.
We passed on good wishes of the Club to both Steve and Pat.
Photo attached.
Cheers,
Rob

The 2026 North Ryde eFun Run for Youth Mental Health will be held over the week beginning Sunday 17 May until Sunday 24 May inclusive.
We will once again be partnering with the Rotary Clubs of Macquarie Park and Ryde as well as Macquarie University Lifespan Health and Well being Research Centre to raise funds for Youth Mental Health.

KidsXpress  is now joining our team as a partner and beneficiary.

Some Events for the week are already planned:
  • The eFun Run week will commence on Sunday 17 May - more information to come regarding an event to start the week of challenges - possibly a modified 7 Bridges walk!
  • Macquarie ParkRun will be taken over again on Saturday 23 May at Macquarie University to raise funds for the Lifespan Health and Wellbeing Research Centre and to raise awareness about mental health.
  • This year our clubs will be putting on a BBQ at the ParkRun to also raise awareness about mental health and Rotary.
  • We will be asking for volunteers to help on the day at the BBQ from 7am until 11am.
  • We will complete the eFun Run week on Sunday 24 May with a guided historical walk around Annandale from 10am finishing for lunch at the Tramsheds.
