Dear  Club Members and Friends,

 

It was wonderful to have so many sponsors and supporters attend the Carols Sponsors Thank You Breakfast  held lat Friday. It was a great opportunity to thank the sponsors for their support with members from the Macquarie Park and North Ryde Rotary Clubs. I have included photos from the breakfast in the photo albums section of the bulletin. 

 

This week we have had a change of plans for Friday's meeting. Unfortunately, Fiona McCulloch, who was coming to speak to us about Public Image for Rotary Clubs has had to postpone her visit. We will now have a Club Assembly where we will look at the proposed merging of the two Sydney Rotary Districts and vote as a club on whether we wish the discussions to continue at District level. ADG Julie Thorpe will attend to help guide the discussion. I have sent an email to all members with the links to the videos regarding the proposal and relevant documents.

 

We will also discuss the planning for the Book Stall to be held on Saturday 23 March  and North Ryde Fun Run to be held on Sunday 25 August if there is sufficient time. Hopefully we will be able to reschedule Fiona's presentation in April.

 

I will have some samples of the new Rotary t-shirts at the meeting this Friday. We are planning to order new t-shirts for members who would like one and have the Rotary Club of North Ryde embroidered on the t-shirt along with the current Rotary logo. Please let me know if you are interested in purchasing a new club t-shirt.

 

The first meeting of the 2019 North Ryde Fun Run Committee will take place next Tuesday 12 March at our place , 93 Park Road Hunters Hill commencing 7.30p.m. If you would like to join the committee, please contact me on my email or mobile 0400803417, prior to the meeting.

 

The first meeting with the  Macquarie University Representatives will be held on Friday 22 March at 9.30a.m. at Robert Menzies College. We usually schedule three or four meetings with the representatives prior to the Fun Run. We also liaise with the Centre for Emotional Health regarding two seminars on Youth Mental Health that will run leading up to the Fun Run. 

 

We have had some great news in relation to the Fun Run from Victor Dominello MP. The State Government has awarded our club a grant of $5000 for Youth Mental Health! I am awaiting further details from Victor Dominello's office, but this is certainly a great start for our campaign!

 

We are also applying for a grant from Ryde Council for the Annual Christmas Party at North Ryde Community Aid. Thank you to Barbara Lee who attended the recent workshop on grants at Ryde Council. We apply for this grant each year and one for the Carols. We have been very fortunate in the support from Ryde Council in approving these grants and hope that we will be successful again this year.

 

District Assembly will be held on Sunday 14 April 2019 between 8.30a.m.and 4.30p.m. This year it will be held at:

Nurragingy Avenue (just off Eastern Road)
Quakers Hill NSW 2763
 

Attendance at District Assembly is mainly for incoming Board members for 2019-20, but newer members are also welcome to attend and gain a perspective of the 9685 District along with the projects and activities undertaken locally and internationally by many clubs in the district. District Assembly is a good place to connect with other office bearers in our District and maximise what we can share with and learn from each other.

 

 The agenda has been set by our incoming RI President with his Rotary Connects the World theme, and global goals of growth, involving our families, building leadership paths and embracing the UN.

We will be collecting books, cds and dvd for the Book Sale this Friday and next at the club meeting and next Wednesday morning at the Gladesville Kennards storage centre at 10a.m. Please contact David Martin, Victoria Crawford or myself if you have items that need to be collected at other times.
