We had a wonderful dinner and catch up at the Noble Terrace Restaurant on Friday 25 October. It was a lovely night and great to see Mandy and Ian Van (we celebrated Ian’s birthday), Sandeep, Rajesh and Zoya Rathi, Brian and Sue Bailey, Rob and Carolin Wilkinson. Rob invited past club member Steve Perrin to join us, and it was also great to see Steve. In a wonderful surprise when Pam and I arrived Steve presented the club with a cash donation of $500. I have sent Steve a letter of thanks from our club.(See photos here).
Our Club has been recognised by ShelterBox with a Bronze Champion Award for the 2023-24 financial year (see here). This is in recognition of the club's continued support over the past three years. Congratulations to our members for all the efforts made to raise funds to support this worthy cause.

Don't Miss Out! Have you ordered your puddings yet?
For the last several years, the Rotary Clubs of North Ryde, Chatswood/Roseville, Wahroonga, Pennant Hills and Turramurra have worked together in raising funds for a literacy program at Moree East Public School called “Books in Homes”. Nearly 90% of the students at the school come from the local Aboriginal community. The program has had a profound positive effect on the literacy skills of the students. The program provides “…quality books-of-choice to children living in remote, disadvantaged and low socio-economic circumstances, ensuring crucial early literacy engagement and the development of reading skills needed for lifelong achievement.” The Rotary Clubs in Moree are our local representatives.
One of the fund-raising activities has been the sale of delicious puddings from Pudding Lane. The puddings have won international prizes in previous years and include your traditional Christmas pud, macadamia and brandy, gluten free, date and toffee, rum and plum, mango and brandy and a variety of evil dark chocolate.
Payment by direct deposit: Rotary Club of North Ryde BSB 633 000 A/c 126363779 include your last name & “# (total number of puddings)” or by mail: send order form and cheque (“Rotary Club of North Ryde”) to PO Box 6171, North Ryde 2113
The guest speaker at this Friday's club meeting will be Charles Fellner. All members and friends are welcome to attend via zoom commencing 7.30a.m.
Charles Fellner is a retired IT professional from Sydney. After seeing various friends being scammed, he wanted to do something to fight back. Rather than creating yet another website on the topic he decided instead to do some thorough research and then conduct presentations at various clubs such as Rotary and Lions on the subject of scam awareness. He has since followed on from this with teaching Scam Awareness at WEA Sydney Adult Education.
In these presentations, his focus is on the more common scams. He explains what goes on behind these scams, the steps that one should take to avoid being scammed, and what one should do if they have been scammed. He also has a strong interest in the psychology of scamming and believes this is a very important and often neglected part of the puzzle. He talks with people almost every day about scamming every chance he gets.
