Dear Members and Friends,

At the Club Assembly held at Dunmore Lang College on Friday 19 July we presented Binoe Verghese with his Paul Harris Fellow. Binoe was unable to attend the Changeover Dinner to receive the award on the night. We also had a visitor from Canada, Andrew Hull, the son of Jim Hull OAM, and a member of the Rotary Club of Vancouver attend this Club Assembly. See photos here or photo albums.

An update on a couple of projects that I mentioned in the previous bulletin. The Buddy Bench was assembled and installed at North Ryde Public School on Thursday 25 July with help from Bob Selinger OAM, Peter and Bernie Mason. The school's Assistant Principal, Erin Taggart, expressed that the school was most appreciative of the support that our Rotary Club gives to the school and will invite us to speak at one of their School Assemblies. See photos here or photo album.

Later, that afternoon the DVSafePhone Collection Box was installed at Cox’s Road Mall by Bob, Bernie and Peter, with posters put up around the mall advertising the collection box and its purpose. See story here.

There will be an official launch of the DVSafePhone Collection Box at Cox’s Road Mall on Thursday 1 August at 3:30pm. We are expecting to have at the launch Federal MP Jerome Laxale, Kathy Tracey representing State MP Jordan Lane, City of Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown, Rotary District 9685 District Governor Niranjan Deodhar, Annette and Seb Lentini, members from the Rotary Club of Ryde plus members from our own club. We should also have someone from TWT there to take photos of this event.

On Saturday 27 July PP Mandy Van represented our club at the City of Ryde Eisteddfod to present the prizes for the ‘Prepared speech 13 & Under’ that our club sponsored. See photos here or photo album.

Also, on Saturday 27 July we had our District Presidents' Meeting. From that meeting a few important points were asked to be passed onto the members of the clubs.

First was that we have been asked by ROMAC (Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children) for assistance with accommodation and transportation for the relatives of the children who are brought to Australia for medical treatment. Please see the following message from ROMAC Chairman Ian D’Arcy Walsh.

‘We are constantly needing more volunteers to help us with all these tasks so if you would like to help and participate in this extremely rewarding and enormously impactful work, please contact me at chair@romac.org.au OR our Acting HR, Training & Recruitment Chair, Maggie Alexander, at’ hr@romac.org.au.

It was suggested by our District Governor that each club have a Club Champion to attract members to attend the 2025 District Conference, from Friday 22 March to Saturday 23 March 2025 to be held at the Pullman Penrith. If you are interested in taking on the role of Club Champion, please let me know.

Also, at the Conference they are looking for clubs to give a 3-minute presentation on their club, in person or a video. Again, if you are interested in doing this, please let me know. Not all presentations will be presented. The conference committee will vet the presentations and pick the best ones.

Thank you,
Regards
Garry

DVSafePhone Project at Cox's Rd Mall
We are pleased to announce a strategic partnership with DVSafePhone, the not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting individuals affected by domestic violence across Australia,
This collaboration aims to collect old, functioning mobile phones to bolster DVSafePhone's mission of providing free, essential lifelines to domestic violence survivors.

We are delighted to join hands with DVSafePhone in making a tangible impact on the lives of those affected by domestic violence. The Rotary Club of North Ryde is committed to fostering safe and respectful communities and this partnership resonates deeply with our objectives.

You are encouraged to actively participate by donating your old, operational mobile phones. A DVSafePhone donation collection box will be prominently placed at Cox’s Rd Mall, North Ryde from Friday 26/07/2024 offering a convenient place for you to contribute to this significant cause.

Together, we can make a meaningful difference and provide vital resources to those in need.

Please bring your old mobile phones and their chargers (any make or model) and place them in the box, which will be sited near Coxs Road Fruit Market. Any phones that cannot be repaired will be used for parts or recycled.
Any questions? Please contact our project coordinator, Bob Selinger, on 0403 003 257 or email northryderotary@gmail.com
