What does it mean to you to belong to a modern Rotary? What do you think Rotary looks like in our modern world?
We ponder these facts and wonder as a small Club; we can contribute to the world of Rotary and keep up with the ever-changing momentum of a modern world. Considering this, as a small club, we came up with a few ideas, we are going to expand our reach within the local, national and international field of Rotary.
We have been lucky enough to join forces with 13 other Clubs and individual people to donate money toward a very important project overseas in West Bengal India. This has proved to be a great initiative as it spreads a small amount of money from each Club to a wider goal of achieving something for people overseas. This money is going to go towards a global grant which will be matched by foundation, for a mobile pathology bus to provide check-ups and testing in communities near Kolkata West Bengal in India, in partnership with Behala Balananda Brahmachari Hospital and research centre and was initially submitted by the Rotary Club of Kolkata and North Ryde. It is our privilege to be accepted to take part in this Rotary Foundation project with past District Governor Niranjan Deodhar, for a grand total of $30,000! I congratulate everyone who has been part of making this Global Grant possible.
We have also been accepted to sponsor a group of students to take part in the Pitch For Purpose project which is coordinated by District 9685. Our group of students from Marsden High School at Meadowbank have proceeded through to the finals which will be held on the next Saturday the 19th of September, at the University of Western Sydney campus Parramatta. We wish them well in their endeavours as the “Visionary Voices “of Marsden High School. These students have been working very hard on their vision for the future of the environment and the world. We wish them luck.
Everybody better get their thinking caps on as well for Christmas gifts, as we have now launched our Puddings sales organised by Bob Selinger OAM, to assist with the project of Books in Homes at Moree East Public School. Bob is particularly enthusiastic about this project in partnership with the Rotary Clubs of Turramurra and Chatswood Roseville, as it lets him wear his other hat of the Indigenous Liaison Officer for Rotary District 9685. Bob communicated to our club at our last club zoom meeting the importance of this project, and an unexpected side effect. Because children are so proudly taking their reading books home to read to the parents, some parents who were illiterate are now learning to read. Becoming employable and being able to read signs and forms without relying upon others to read for them. For more information see here.
This Friday coming is going to be our assembly meeting at the Dunmore Lang College to prevent present our Pride of Workmanship Awards to some well deserving nominees it will be a wonderful breakfast gathering we look forward to seeing you all there.

The Carols committee are seeking members and friends of our club to assist with the many volunteer tasks that need to be undertaken to make the Carols on the Common another great success.
Thank you to those members and friends who have already volunteered to help. It would be greatly appreciated to have as many volunteers as possible.
These tasks include:
Letterbox delivery of flyers prior to the Carols
Setting up carpark fences on Saturday 12 December from 3pm- 5pm
Morning set up on Sunday 13 December from10am-12pm
Afternoon preparation: 12noon-3.00pm
Top car park assisting with directing cars and collecting payments: 3-10pm
Bottom Car Park assisting with directing cars 3-10pm
Bucket Collection: 7.00pm
Lost Elves Tent supervision 4- 9.30pm ( Working With Children Check Clearance and Rotary District 9685 Volunteer Information and Declaration Form essential)
Raffle ticket sales during the event: 4- 8.30 pm ( Working with Children Check & Rotary District 9685 Volunteer Information & Declaration Form required for those who are 18 years or older).
Event Pack up: 9pm-11pm ( the more people we have for this the earlier we can finish)

The Carols on the Common is a major fundraising event for both our club and Macquarie Park Rotary Club and it is also a wonderful community event for the Ryde area.
