24 June 2022
The Rotary Club of North Ryde acknowledges Australia’s First Nations Peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land and gives respect to the Elders – past and present – and through them to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Hello Fellow Rotarians and friends,
I do hope this week’s newsletter finds you all well and safe.
I say a very big thank you to Sandeep for providing the news in our bulletin for the last two weeks and have noticed they were very informative. I look forward to reading his news over the next 12 months.
Bernie and myself had a lovely break for the two weeks enjoying beautiful weather in Queensland and generally taking it easy. However, like all holidays, they come to an end, and we are now back ready for the serious work.
Last Friday was a day of rest with no morning meeting. However, this Friday (24 June 2022) we have our annual Changeover dinner at the North Ryde RSL. Club. This will be a celebratory evening with a lot of fun. Be there at 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start. Bring some money with you to buy the raffle tickets and drink(s) of your choice. Your first drink is a welcome complementary drink.  As Sandeep mentioned last week, we now have 68 people attending plus we also have Stephen Sim as our emcee for the night. Sandeep and I look forward to seeing you all there dressed up in your fine outfits. We may even have Mandy taking photos on the red carpet!
Planning for our ‘Christmas Carols on the Common’ event in December this year (2022) as a joint event with our friends from Macquarie Park Rotary Club is underway. The first meeting has been held and it would appear all is now in progress to make it a successful event. Remember we need a full club effort to make the event a great success as it has been in previous years (COVID excluded). We want a good roll-up of volunteers to share and ease the burden on all.
It was great to see the Bunnings BBQ at Gladesville on Saturday 4 June was a very successful day. I thank all of you who attended and to share the workload of the day. Thanks, Garry, for arranging this successful day.
As I have previously mentioned, Garry has also put together a list of future dates of the BBQs at Bunnings store at Gladesville for you to put in your diaries please.
Also, as I have previously mentioned, the next outbound Rotary student exchange is starting July next year (2023) with the first inbound students and the next outbound students will be in January next year (2023). If anyone knows of a young responsible school student, they feel is worthy to be engaged with this, please let Bernie know.
Be reminded that our friends from Macquarie Park Rotary Club are holding a Trivia Night to test our grey matter, on 25th June 2022. This will be at the Holy Spirit School Hall in Cox’s Road North Ryde, meeting at 6:00pm for a 6:30pm start. The cost is $20 per person. We do have several of our Club members who have indicated they will be there.
I am very grateful for all the hard work and commitment by everyone in our Club during these challenging times

When you are stressed you eat cakes, ice cream, chocolates and lollies.  Why?  Because stressed is desserts spelled backwards.
