We have had a busy couple of weeks. Our Trivia Night was held on Saturday 22 February at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church Hall. I would like to thank everyone who came along to support this fund-raising event for our club’s youth programs (RYLA, RYPEN, Youth Exchange, DIGIT and the Science Experience). We had wonderful support from our surrounding Rotary clubs, Macquarie Park, Ryde, Eastwood/Gladesville, Turramurra and Belrose. Our club raised just over $6,000 from the night, which is a fantastic result for us.
Congratulations to the winning team of ‘Dumb and Fun’ which consisted of the very enthusiastic team of the Mayor of Ryde Trenton Brown and some of the Ryde councillors. Another winner on the night was Jerome Laxale MP for winning the closest coin to the bottle and Jerome’s son for winning the plane toss. Thank you to the team from our club who organised the night, Bob Selinger OAM; Quiz Master and MC for the night Brian Bailey; the scorers Sue Bailey and Robin Amos; Pam Wood, Bernie and Peter Mason, Binoe Verghese, Mandy Van and Rob Wilkinson. Also thank you to Pam Bennett and Carolin Wilkinson who helped with the folding of the raffle tickets and to all who donated prizes for the event including the silent auction and raffle. Thank you, also to Holy Spirit Parish for the use of their fantastic hall. Our club has made a donation to the Holy Spirit Parish for the use of the hall for the event.
On Wednesday 26 February I was invited to attend the 2025 Commencement Dinner at Macquarie University Dunmore Lang College to present the recipient of our Scholarship to the college,Alexandra Fothergill. Unfortunately, Alexandra was unable to attend the dinner. We are hoping that Alexandra and the Principal of the college, Dr. Alasdair Murrie-West will be able to attend a Club Assembly at Dunmore Lang College very soon.
On Saturday 1 March we were back at Bunnings Gladesville for another fundraising BBQ. It was a busy hot day and we raised $2,100 for the club. Thank you to our regular helpers Rob, Peter, Pam, Mandy and Binoe with help during the day from our Youth Exchange student Mei, as well as Sandeep, Ruth, Bernie, Seb Lentini and Johanna Verghese.
The next big project for our club is the
2025 North Ryde eFun Run for Youth Mental Health. The eFun run will be held from
Sunday 6 April until Sunday 13 April inclusive. the website is now live at
https://rotary-north-ryde-efun-run-for-youth-mental-health-2025.raiselysite.com/ where you can register to participate and find more information about the event. Funds raised go to Australian Rotary health for research into youth mental health and to the Lifespan and Wellbeing Research Centre at Macquarie University for the Cool kids program. Pam and I met with the team at Macquarie University this week to discuss collaborating with the
Centre and the Macquarie University Park Run to create an event on
Saturday 12 April to help raise funds for the cause. Watch this space for more information coming soon!
