How good does it feel to be able to get out and about? I asked this question last week and now realise our Club is now very busy until Christmas. The Mercedes Benz BBQ last Sunday, the Tree of Joy, our Celebration Dinner, Bunnings Community Event Night and the Christmas Carols, these will keep us all well occupied. I am hoping that this ‘opening up’ does keep progressing so we can enjoy a merry ‘face to face’ Christmas with our loved ones.
Our latest
Club Assembly raised the discussion of the
Board positions for the Rotary year 2022-2023 that need to be filled. These are
President Elect, Treasurer, Secretary, Directors. Please give some serious thought to these, for our Club to continue to be the loved, generous working force that we are in our community.

Our Christmas puddings orders are slightly delayed. Andre advised us today that he should be picking them up on Thursday. He will notify us when they are in his hot little hands. We will then arrange for these to be distributed to one and all. Please advise your friends and family who have ordered, of this little delay and thank them for their great support. I am sure Moree East Public School and their literacy program are very thankful for the support. Thanks for this Bob.
The Mercedes Benz Car Club breakfast at Lane Cove National Park last Sunday morning, 28 November 2021, was a very hectic few hours and was also a very rewarding fund raiser of about $700.00. A big thank you for the great efforts, to all our Club members and friends involved on the day. We have received a thank-you from the Mercedes Benz Club and advised they will keep us in mind for their future events. Thank you, Club Director, Garry Maloney for your coordination of this.

Please all be reminded the
BBQ at Gladesville Bunnings is arranged for 15 January 2022. We need a good roll-up of volunteers to share the workload on this day and make it enjoyable for everyone involved. Put this in your diary and let Garry know of your availability for the day

Also be reminded of the upcoming Christmas community event at Gladesville Bunnings store for charitable/non-profit groups such as our Rotary Club to promote ourselves. This will be on the evening/night of 9 December 2021 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Bunnings will be supplying us with a spinning wheel with prizes, for a gold coin donation as a fund raiser for our Club. We do have some volunteers prepared to help at our stall, however some extras would be good to engage with the visitors and as a possible membership drive.
Our Annual Celebration Dinner is on this Friday evening, 3 December 2021, at Basil’s Seafood Restaurant. This will be a fun night to meet up with our friends and others in our local area in a relaxed and casual place. Please be there at 6:30pm so we can start promptly by 7:00pm. Thank you Garry Maloney for arranging this and I very much appreciate the effort you have put in to make it a successful night. Thank you to Pam Wood for all the behind the scenes help, even though she will not be there to help celebrate.
The Tree of Joy has now been erected at North Ryde Cox’s Road Mall and is due to close on Saturday 18 December 2021. Presents have started to be returned to the collection box and these have been moved to storage for distribution when the tree closes. Hamper donations are taken directly to Presbyterian Aged Care-North Ryde Community Aid Inc. Thanks for your work, Pam and all the helpers collecting gifts and checking the tree each day.
The
Certificates of Appreciation have been presented to our generous supporters of the
North Ryde eFun Run and
Bunnings BBQs, in recognition of their wonderful help during this trying year. We thank them for all their wonderful ongoing help and support they provide to our Club.

The 21st Anniversary of the Rotary Carols will be this year! This event has been a very good fund raiser for both our club and Macquarie Park Rotary Club. The organization is proceeding at a great pace with the entertainers plus dancers and the providers now arranged and signed up. The great posters, flyers and banners have been produced. The banners are up in prominent positions and the posters and flyers are being distributed.
The planning meetings have been very positive, and everyone involved are very keen for the Christmas Carols event to proceed, to help the local community to return to a sense of a normal life. All is progressing well for a fun evening on Sunday 19 December. Mandy, Bernie and I are organizing the volunteers, so let us know if you can help at any time. Our volunteer numbers are to be counted in the final number of people present. This is a Covid safe event, so social distancing etc needs to be strictly adhered to.
I attended the District Presidents meeting on Saturday last 27 November 2021 and our Carols event was mentioned to all the attendees present. Our District President, Linsday May, mentioned there has been an increase of 60 new members in our Rotary District with 18 retirees. District also advised nominations for District Governor for Rotary year 2024-2025 are now open. Do you have what it takes? Nominate now!
Some dates to note in your diaries are:
Train Ride for Polio on 23 February 2022.
District Conference on 18/19 March 2022 (Cost $210 if paid by 31 December 2021 or $298 after this).
Our Club was honoured with a Certificate of Appreciation for our support of End Polio Now Campaign, Club Annual Donor Level 1, 2021. Well, done to everyone.
I am very grateful for all the hard work and commitment by everyone in our Club during these difficult times, thank you.
