PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Last week, Pam Bennett, Ian and I enjoyed the fun Trivia Night fundraising for “Books in Homes - Moree Literacy Project”. This is a joint project with our club, Rotary Club of Turramurra and Rotary Club Chatswood Roseville see photos here . The annual Christmas Pudding Fundraiser for Books in Homes will start to take orders in October to November. Please support when more information will come closer to the date.

On 22 August 2025, our Rotary Youth Exchange Student Mei Yamamoto from Japan had shared her excellent school project “The Collapse of Insects” with us at our face-to-face club assembly. We learnt about the insects and the natural ecosystem. On the weekend, Bernie invited Mei to her private family music soiree with piano and cello see photos here.

In a world where communication can be hindered by language barriers, music emerges as a universal language that transcends boundaries. It breaks down barriers, fosters connections, and celebrates the diversity of human experiences.

There are 2 more weeks for the Ryde Eisteddfod. On the weekend at North Ryde Community Hall, I had volunteered to assist on the piano solo day. I enjoyed a day of piano performances and witnessed some of the young talents from 6 years old to adult playing lots of different styles of music and particularly, Australian pieces. It is a great experience for all the long serving volunteers.  Don’t miss out the final next weekend. See photos here.

You may start seeing some sticky notes on the books from street library with “Books on the Move” from our club. Hope the readers will enjoy the preloved books from our Club members and friends.

Best regards
Mandy

Bunnings Gladesville BBQ Fundraiser Saturday 16 August 2025

The last Gladesville Bunnings BBQ fundraiser that our club held was on Saturday 16 August. The club gives an annual donation to The Riding for the Disabled (RDA) facility at Marsfield and seeing that August is the traditional birthday for horses the club’s Board made the decision that the profits from this BBQ would be the club’s donation to RDA.

It gives me great pleasure to let you know that we will be donating $2,600 to RDA this year. I would like to thank the wonderful team from our club for their continued support and enthusiasm on the day. More helpers are always welcome on these days.

I would like to thank those that were there for the whole day, from the start at 7am to the clean-up at 5pm.  Rob Wilkinson; Mandy Van; Peter Mason and Pam Wood.

We also had wonderful support at different times during the day from:
Bernie Mason; Brian Bailey; Nick Martorana; Seb Lentini and Paul Cox (Pam's brother).

I would particularly like to thank Seb who always turns up to help. Seb was made a ‘Friend of our Rotary Club’ some time ago and really understands what being a ‘Friend of Rotary’ means.

I would also like to thank Ron Marton, from RDA, for being at Bunnings at 7am to help me with the setup. Ron had to leave to attend to classes at RDA and then a committee meeting after that but came back later in the day to help. We also had wonderful help from Helen Strasser, from RDA, for the first half of the day.

We had surprised help from Natasha, Jamie and Edith Spalding for the second half of the day. Edith is our outbound Rotary Youth Exchange Student for 2026.
You will be hearing more about Edith and her family in the coming weeks.

Cox's Rd Family Fun Day Sat 6 September 2025
2025 Cox’s Road Family Fun Day, Saturday 6 September 2025

Our Rotary Club has been invited to participate in the Cox’s Road Family Fun Day again this year.

The Fun Day, which is organised by the management of Cox’s Road Mall and Ritchie’s IGA is being held on Saturday 6 September. The event runs from 10am to 1pm.
We have been asked to run the BBQ on the day. I am still waiting for Ryde Council to allow us to use the 2 Ryde Council parking spots located outside the medical centre in Cox’s Road to setup the BBQ. In the same position that we had last year.

Rev John Chappell will supply the 2 BBQs, and the supplies of sausages, onions and bread will be organised by Cox’s Road Mall. We will be selling the sausages for a gold coin donation.
It should be a busy day as the Ryde Eisteddfod is concluding on this day with performances all day at the North Ryde Community Hall opposite to where our BBQ is located.
We will also be selling Cheeses Board sets donated to the club for $50 normal retail price $144 donated. A Great gift for Christmas, birthdays or a special occasion!
