It has been wonderful to catch up with so many friends out and about in Ryde. The weather has been a bit unpredictable, and I hope you were not adversely affected with the recent storms.
After wondering if our Bunnings BBQ event would be adversely affected by the weather, the opposite was what happened. We were kept busy for the whole time, and still had customers wanting our famous sausages, from Bush’s Meats at Gladesville, at 4:30pm. Thank you for organising and overseeing the whole day Garry Maloney and thank you to all our members that found the time to help. It was a very successful day.
Thank you also to Louise Savage OAM for dropping in to say hi, and catching up with our local hero, Rob Wilkinson, while she was there. I wish her all the success for her para-Olympian team in France. We will all be cheering her team on to greatness.
I encourage all members to go onto the District 9685 website, to read about the progress of the Regionalization pilot program and the progress that has been made to date. This will impact how Rotary goes forward and grows in the future. It is most important that we stay relevant in this modern world of change, whilst remembering what has gone before.
April is here already, and we are full steam ahead toward the end of my term as your President. I can’t believe I am saying that. Planning is well underway for our Annual Celebration dinner and Changeover onFriday 28 June 2024 at the North Ryde RSL. Garry and I look forward to welcoming you all. Invitations will be sent out soon.
April also reminds us of the role the ANZACs played on our right of freedom. So important in this day of unrest and war around the world. There will be many events to mark ANZAC day around the City of Ryde, coordinated by the North Ryde RSL, and in Sydney CBD too:
Macquarie Park Cemetery on Thursday 18 April at 10:30am.
Northern Suburbs Memorial Gardens on Saturday 20 April at 10:30am.
North Ryde RSL dawn service is on Thursday 25April at 6:30am for the March off at 6:45am. Followed by the dawn service at the memorial gardens outside the club. We look forward to seeing all our members who can attend at this event.
Bob Selinger has been very busy with work for our club, finding out about buddy seats for our schools. He has made some wonderful finds. These seats are important for the school, and encourage any student who is feeling alone, to sit there and a buddy will come and talk to them. A great way to make friends.
It is very exciting that our eFun Run for Youth Mental Health website is up and running. Thank you, Pam Wood, for all the work to make this a reality. The site looks great, and it is very user friendly. Come on board and make a positive change to your physical and mental health plus those of our youth as well. We have some exciting events planned for the week and invite you all along to these. More details are available on the website:Rotary North Ryde eFun Run for Youth Mental Health 2024 (raisely.com)
I am pleased to advise that we have two students from Marsden High, attending the Winter RYPEN program this June in the Blue Mountains. It is a weekend of great fun and leadership learning on the weekend from14-16 June 2024. Our club looks forward to sponsoring these potential leaders of the future.
I am also pleased to report that a Rotaract club will be starting up again at the Macquarie University. Krissie Webb is driving the initiative to have Rotaract clubs regain momentum. She is in the process of helping 5 new clubs come to fruition. Well done Krissie. We look forward to supporting the new Mac Uni Rotaract club get under way. So exciting.
Have a wonderful couple of weeks.

My name is Brody Hollis and I am a program coordinator for Generation Connection. Every school holiday’s we organize social events for children and seniors.
I’m contacting you with a bit of an emergency situation. I’ve been through 5 retirement villages in your area and haven’t found anyone to join Meadowbank Public School these school holidays.
The program is completely free, we even organize your transportation, and I’m looking for some seniors who are interested in coming to a storytelling session, a drawing workshop and a day of bowls at Petersham Bowling Club.
The Rotary Club of Hunters Hill is holding a Car Rally to Ned Kelly country in Victoria, from where Ned grew up to where he was finally captured. The five days of the tour will include nights in Beechworth and Wangaratta with visits to Mansfield Benalla, Euroa, Yarrawonga and Jerilderie.

All participants will be given touring instructions each day and tour questions at group dinners the night before. If you are interested in being a participant in the Safari, direct all enquiries and bookings to myself. (Further details attached)
My name is Amelia and I am Project Officer at The George Institute for Global Health. In collaboration with The University of New South Wales, this year we will be running a 20-week Intergenerational Program to evaluate whether bringing pre-school aged children and adults (aged 65+) together, to engage in meaningful and fun activities, can improve health and wellbeing outcomes for all!
You may be familiar with the ABC series “Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds.” This is similar to the type of program we will be running, but now for community-dwelling older adults (and NOT being filmed)!
Your details have been passed onto me as members of your group may be interested for themselves or a relative. I’m hoping you may be able to assist in the distribution of information to older adults about this project? We have newly partnered with a number of pre-schools located in the local community (Lane Cove, North Ryde, Northbridge, Waverley, etc.) to host the program, and as such, we now have increased capacity for older adults in our local community to get involved! We believe that collaborating with you will be a fantastic way to get in touch with older adults in the community and facilitate access to this opportunity for them.
DID YOU KNOW?
• The kinds of activities that we do in the intergenerational sessions have been shown to help protect thinking skills (cognition) and help with fitness?
• They’re also fun, one of our previous adult participants said “I got my life back”!
• The children also get the chance to grow their language skills and empathy which are really important for starting school.
Please let me know if you would have the capacity to assist in the distribution of information or would just like to find out more information!
I hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you for your time,
Kind regards,
Amelia, on behalf of the INTEGRITY Study

Imagine being the light in someone's darkest moment. You can be that light by volunteering with Lifeline.
Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury Sydney is currently looking for volunteers interested in becoming Lifeline Crisis Supporters.
Our volunteers on our Crisis Support Line (13 11 14) and Text and Chat Crisis Support Service (0477 131 144) support help seekers to ensure that no person in Australia has to face their darkest moment alone.
Every day, Lifeline's national Crisis Support Service receives approximately 3,750 requests for help. That's almost 1.4 million requests for help each year, highlighting the urgent need for volunteers to join us in this crucial mission.
The service provides 24-hour, 7-days-a-week confidential support for anyone in crisis, or those supporting someone experiencing crisis. People from all backgrounds contact us about all kinds of life problems. Whatever their crisis, we are there for our Help Seekers when they have nowhere else to turn.
Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury Sydney is currently recruiting for the next intake of volunteer Telephone Crisis Supporters and Digital Crisis Supporters. Volunteers generously give their time, energy, and expertise to help Lifeline achieve its vision of an ‘Australia free of suicide’.
As your local Lifeline Centre, we are hoping to attract locals to join our next intake of Telephone Crisis Supporters volunteering out of our telephone centre at Gordon, starting August 2024.
As a Digital Crisis Supporter, volunteers can support someone in their moment of need from their homes, as an increasing number of help seekers reach out to Lifeline via text or online chat.
We would greatly appreciate it if you could please promote our next round of recruitment within your team and network?
I have attached the media releases for your use, as well as a poster you can display or distribute. If you would like physical copies of the poster sent to your location, please don’t hesitate to ask!
Thank you for considering our request. Your support can make a real difference in the lives of those in crisis, and please do reach out if you have any questions or would like any further collateral.
