Dear Club Members and Friends,
Once again it has been a very busy week. Our meeting last Friday focussed on the Country students IT Tour (DIGIT) week which commences on Sunday 27 May. David Martin has done a brilliant job once again coordinating the week. It is a big team effort and we now have a nearly complete schedule for the week. This year there are 6 students coming to Sydney from Forbes, Ashford and Bundarra.
The students will be visiting Optus, Oracle, Coles Distribution Centre at Eastern Creek, Facebook, UTS, Cisco, IBM, Google, Sydney Observatory, Macquarie University and Canon. They will also have an evening at Vivid in the city and another evening of Bowling and laser tag at Strike Macquarie Centre.
Thank you to everyone who has helped in the organisation of the week including David, Terrie , Garry and Sandeep. Thank you also to the families who are hosting the students and to those who are transporting and supervising the students. We will look forward to hearing the students talk about their experiences at the dinner on Thursday 30 May which will be held at Riding for the Disabled, 118-120 Culloden Street Marsfield.
Our guest speaker at this Friday's breakfast meeting will be Ron Marton an audio specialist who volunteers tirelessly for Riding for the Disabled (NSW) at Marsfield.
It was also great to have Ricky Leong from Rotaract Macquarie-Ryde join us last Friday. Unfortunately Ricky had some sad news that the Rotaract Club of Macquarie-Ryde is closing. His good news was that there is an opportunity for a new Rotaract club to form at Macquarie University within the next two years. We wish all the outgoing members of the Rotaract club all the very best for the future and hope they keep in touch with us.
I attended the District 9685 President's meeting last Saturday morning at Hornsby RSL. At the meeting the ballot to decide if the conversations between D9685 and D9675 should continue was held. The result of the Ballot was NO 27 votes, YES 26 votes.
District Governor Susan and District Governor Elect Kalma then called on the Presidents attending the meeting to convene a
small working group to discuss the ways in which they feel that the District can move forward in the areas of
Membership and Brand Awareness. I have attached the information regarding the vote and the working party
here.
This was District Governor Susan Wakefield's final President's meeting for this Rotary year. Awards and certificates were presented to clubs for achievements through the year. Our club received a recognition certificate from Australian Rotary Health for significant and merits service by attaining a level of contributions equivalent to $2000 per member. Well done North Ryde!
Congratulations to all the clubs that received awards and certificates. There is certainly an incredible amount of work being undertaken to support Rotary projects in the local and broader communities.
Our club has reached this level of contribution to ARH as a result of the funds raised through
the North Ryde Fun Run each year. The
Fun Run Committee met on Tuesday evening this week and a summary of the meeting is in the
update in the bulletin.
The 2019 Annual Celebration Dinner for our club will be held on
Friday 28 June at Basil's Seafood Restaurant Marsfield see invitation here. Bookings are now being taken, to book a eat or a table please contact me by
