The DVSafePhone Collection Box at Cox’s Road Mall was officially launched on Thursday 1 August. Attending the launch were MP Jerome Laxale, Kathy Tracey representing MP Jordan Lane, Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown, Annette Lentini, and Kathryn Dodd from the Rotary Club of Ryde plus members from our own club. Theo Fotopoulos, Deputy Editor of TWT and a photographer were also there but the launch has not made it into the paper yet . It is in the 9685 District Newsletter see here.
Our club has been invited to attend the School Assembly at North Ryde Public School by the Principal, Rob Francis, on Thursday 15 August to launch the Buddy Bench that was recently installed there. We will have club members, Bernie and Peter Mason, Mandy Van and myself representing the club at the assembly.
At this Friday’s, 16 August, Club Assembly at Dunmore Lang College, we will have Aiyana Forrest as a guest speaker. Aiyana is the recipient of the scholarship that our club donates each year to Dunmore Lang College.
I will be attending the City of Ryde Eisteddfod on Saturday 17 August to present the awards for ‘Prepared reading 14 and Under’ which our club has sponsored. I have also sent an email to our members from Kathryn Dodd asking for volunteers to assist at the Eisteddfod.
I am still asking for someone to volunteer to be our Club Champion to attract members to attend the 2025 District Conference, from Friday 22 March to Saturday 23 March 2025 to be held at the Pullman Penrith. If you are interested in taking on the role of Club Champion, please let me know.
As mentioned in the last bulletin, at the Conference they are looking for clubs to give a 3-minute presentation on their club, in person or a video. Again, if you are interested in doing this, please let me know. Not all presentations will be presented. The conference committee will vet the presentations and pick the best ones. Currently the organising committee is just asking for the ‘Topic’ that the club is going to present on.
If anyone has any interesting information or stories that they wish to share in the club bulletin, can you please send the information to Club Secretary Pam Wood email: woodmal50@hotmail.com or northryderotary@gmail.com
We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the country on which we meet, the Wallumattagal people of the Dharug Nation. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
On Thursday 1 August we were pleased to officially launch our strategic partnership with DVSafePhone, the not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting individuals affected by domestic violence across Australia,
This collaboration aims to collect old, functioning mobile phones to bolster DVSafePhone's mission of providing free, essential lifelines to domestic violence survivors.
You are encouraged to actively participate by donating your old, operational mobile phones. A DVSafePhone donation collection box has been placed at Cox’s Rd Mall, North Ryde offering a convenient place for you to contribute to this significant cause. How to prepare a phone?.Here is the link.
Together, we can make a meaningful difference and provide vital resources to those in need.
Please bring your old mobile phones and their chargers (any make or model) and place them in the box, which will be sited near Coxs Road Fruit Market. Any phones that cannot be repaired will be used for parts or recycled.
For more information or queries please contact our project coordinator, Bob Selinger, on 0403 003 257 or email northryderotary@gmail.com
It was great to have Mandy volunteering at the Eisteddfod today, we had a few hundred kids to organise on and offstage with orchestra and band instruments!
There are more opportunities to volunteer with the Eisteddfod, in particular in Speech where I noticed North Ryde Rotary is already sponsoring a prize on the 24th when Ryde Rotarians will be at a BBQ - if there are North Ryde Rotarians who can volunteer in the yellow highlighted boxes here that would be super. The MC role is particularly good for PR as you can talk about Rotary in the breaks while the adjudicators are finalising the awards for each event.
Thanks again to Mandy for her efforts today and earlier in the Eisteddfod at the speech event. It would be great to make this an event we can work together on.

I'm reaching out to you on behalf of Castle Hill Rotary Club to seek your valuable support for our upcoming "Run for the Hills" event on Sunday, 8th September, at the beautiful Bella Vista Farm, Castle Hill. Unfortunately, we haven't reached the number of registrations we anticipated, and we would greatly appreciate your help in making this event a success.
We invite you and your fellow Rotarians to join us for a delightful morning at the picturesque Bella Vista Farm. Bring along your family, kids, and even your dogs, and participate in our event by walking, running, skipping, or hopping through our 3.4k, 6.8k, or 10.2k events. It's a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, promote health and wellness, and strengthen our community bonds.
