North Ryde eFun Run is up and running and the fund raising has been going well. It is going to be a busy week from Sunday 30 April to 7 May, when all the fund raisers strive to achieve the goals they have committed to. I encourage all our members to participate in the event and tap into their networks to make the event even more successful. It is for a great cause – Youth Mental Health. We are going to be organizing some walking events to take place over the said period and it would be great if family and friends could join us for these events. Specific details will be coming out soon.
Past President David Martin has been very busy finalizing all the arrangements for the IT Tour for Country Students which is being held after a 3-year hiatus. A number of organisations are on board and it will be a fun and experiential week for students coming from country NSW. This year Rotary Club of Epping has been a valuable partner in helping us host the students. A dinner will be held for the students on Thursday 18 May at the Riding for Disabled facility in Marsfield; please save the date in your diaries. More details will be sent closer to the time.
At our last club meeting, we heard from Bernie and Peter Mason who represented our club at the District Conference at Cowra. It was wonderful to hear all about the fantastic event with lots of photos and a few videos too. 300+ people attended the conference. The next Rotary District 9685 Conference 2024 will be held at Terrigal on 15 and 16 March 2024. Hopefully this will make it more accessible to all members.
The 2022 Rotary Carols on the Common committee has been nominated for the City of RydeVolunteers Recognition Awards. Bernie and Mandy from our club as well as Roseanna and Leo from the Rotary Club of Macquarie Park will be representing the committee at the Awards Night to be held on Thursday 11 May. Good luck to the team!
Our next Bunnings Gladesville BBQ Club Fund Raising Event is on Saturday 22 April 2023. As you know, we need helpers throughout the day. This time we are a bit short on helpers. We have found that our busiest times are between 10am and 3pm, so if you can only help for a limited time please keep these times in mind. With Garry out of action with a broken ankle (though he is still doing the organizing behind the scenes), Rob, David, Peter and Bernie will be managing the event.
Next week I am away on work related travel again. Immediate Past President Peter Mason has agreed to conduct our Zoom meeting on Friday 21 April. Our guest speaker on the day will be Rev Dr Peter Davis, Master / CEO, Robert Menzies College.
The following week, on Friday 28 April we will have an in-person meeting at Dunmore Lang College. Our speakers on the day will be Damien Demaret and Ezra Hill, both past Youth Exchange students. Ezra is a recent Youth Exchange student and Damien, from Belgium, was with our club in 2015. They are both going to speak about their Youth Exchange experience.
I thank everyone in the Club for their commitment, energy and contribution towards making a difference.
The 2022-23 presidential theme logo was designed by renowned Australia-based Indigenous artist Riki Salam to represent RI President Jennifer Jones’ theme and initiatives. The logo represents key elements of Rotary while honouring the Indigenous culture:
The circle signifies connections to one another.
The dots around the circle represent people, one for each of our areas of focus.
The circle and the dots together become a navigation star, which signifies Rotary’s guiding light.
The solid line underneath signifies a digging stick used for hard work — a tool that Rotary’s people of action use to get things done.
We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the country on which we meet, the Wallumattagal people of the Eora Nation. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
We now have one week to go before the week of the North Ryde eFun Run for Youth Mental Health begins. Now is the time to register, set your challenge for the week then ask friends and family to sponsor you.
This is one of the club's main fundraisers to support research into youth mental health through Australian Rotary Health. Funds raised also go to the Centre for Emotional Health's Cool Kids program which is an evidence based program for school aged children struggling with anxiety. The money we donate to this program enables families to access the program who cannot otherwise afford to do so.
Funds are also set aside for some of the Rotary Youth programs we support such as RYLA and RYPEN. So please join in and support the campaign to raise a significant amount for these worthy causes.
Simply click on the Sign up now or Take the Challenge buttons on the Home Page or Sign Up in menu bar and fill in the required details. Payment can be made by Credit or Debit card. You can set your own distance to walk, jog, run or ride your bike over the week doing a little each day.
If you are not a keen runner or walker, you can build up your kilometres by going for a regular walk around your home, walking the dog, the baby or the grandkids,. It totally up to you!
Ask your family to sign up and walk with you. If you are having trouble signing up or you would like help let us know and one of the committee can sign up for you.
Once you have registered we encourage you to seek sponsorship for your challenge from your family, friends, colleagues and other contacts. See here for instructions.
Can’t participate this year? You can spread the word and donate to the campaign or sponsor one of our members.
