20 December, 2024

Dear Members and Friends,

Welcome to the final club bulletin for 2024.
The last couple of weeks have been a very busy time for the club.

On Tuesday 10 December Bob Selinger represented the club at the Presentation Day at North Ryde Public School.
A big thank you to Bernie and Peter Mason for hosting the club’s Christmas Party at their home on Friday 13 December. It was wonderful to meet the families of our members.

As you may have read in the latest edition of The Weekly Times we had the annual Rotary Carols on the Common last Sunday the 15 December. It is estimated that there were close to 10,000 in attendance at the event. This event is organised by the Rotary Clubs of North Ryde and Macquarie Park and run with the help of volunteers. The event was a fantastic success for the community.

Thank you to Bernie Mason and all her helpers for organising the Tree of Joy at Cox’s Road Mall this year.

As the organiser of the Bunnings BBQs for our club I would like to thank everyone who was able to help at the BBQs this year. I would also like to thank the suppliers of the goods we need for the BBQs, Bush’s Meats at Gladesville, Ritchies IGA and the Fruit and Vegetable shops at Cox’s Road Mall. Our next Bunnings BBQ is on Saturday 18 January 2025.

As previously published the club’s first social breakfast gathering for 2025  is on Saturday 1 February at Café SaBu and the first club meeting is on Friday 7 February.

Wishing you and your family a Very Happy Christmas and thank you for all your help and support throughout the year and best wishes for the New Year.

Regards
Garry

The 2024 Carols on the Common - Oh What a Night!

Congratulations to everyone who came together to ensure another fantastic Rotary Carols on the Common. Thank you to the wonderful Carols on the Common Committee, led by Roseanna Gallo from the Rotary Club of Macquarie Park, that worked so hard throughout the year to ensure the event was the best yet!

Thank you also to Stephen Sim our wonderful MC for the evening who kept the program running and ensured everyone was enjoying a spectacular evening.

We could not have put on this event without the support from the City of Ryde Council, our many fabulous sponsors; the very talented performers; the vendors and the most essentially, the many volunteers who contributed from putting up banners and corflutes; letterbox delivering flyers and posters prior to the event; implementing the website and social media campaign; setting up on the Saturday afternoon and from the very early hours of Sunday morning until long after midnight following the event.  Then backing up to do a check of the Common and take equipment to storage. And also to the many volunteers who helped with the bucket collection during the evening, stage managing, working in Kidzone and the helping with raffle ticket sales.

A very special thanks to the members, families, friends and colleagues of the Rotary Clubs of Macquarie Park and North Ryde who helped in so many ways. The volunteers from the Ryde East and North Ryde Scouts who helped with the set up, and pull down and also helped in the very popular Kidzone tent. Thanks, also, to the RFS who helped keep the carpark moving and safe; the SES: the local Police; St John's Ambulance; the staff of Bendigo Bank North Ryde who cared for and supported any lost elves throughout the night and the North Ryde RSL for providing the sponsorship for a very spectacular fireworks display to top off the night!

It takes many dedicated people to bring an event such as this together and we are very grateful to everyone involved. After a relaxing break over the Christmas and New Year period the Committee will review the event and start the planning for the next Carols On the Common set for Sunday 14 December 2025.

Merry Christmas!
