President's Message

Dear  Club Members and Friends,
We were very impressed with Stephanie Long's talk about her Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) experience last Friday morning. Her enthusiasm and passion for the RYLA experience was delightful to see. Stephanie is already using her leadership skills to help build the Macquarie-Ryde Rotaract Club into a strong and successful club. We hope to continue to support Stephanie and her Rotaract colleagues in their endeavours and also continue to sponsor candidates like Stephanie to participate in RYLA.
I also presented two video's from District for discussion at the meeting. The powerpoint video was created by the Steering Committee made up of Rotarians from both Sydney districts and cover the topic of our two districts joining together to create one larger Sydney District. We will revisit the discussion in early April to discuss the pros and cons of such a move, we will then hold a vote to  within the club to forward on to District. The vote will be: Yes to continue the discussion or No, not to continue the discussion at this time. I will email the links for the videos to all members to view as there were a number of people away last Friday.
The Trivia night is on this Saturday evening 23 February, 6.30 for 7p.m. Trivia Master, Stephen Sim is planning a great night and we hope to have a really good turnout of teams participating. Thank you to everyone who has donated prizes and wine and to those who have already booked their tables. There is still room for more teams so please contact me on my mobile 0400803417 or email if you wish to participate. I will need to know numbers by this Thursday evening. Funds raised go towards our Youth Programs including RYLA, RYPEN MUNA, Youth Exchange and the Country Student IT Visit.
We were pleased to hear that Past President Maggie Alexander is recovering well after recent surgery. I sent Maggie flowers on behalf of the club when she came home from hospital last week. On Friday we received a lovely card from Maggie thanking everyone for their thoughts and good wishes We hope Maggie continues to recover well and will soon be back to full good health.
Three of our members attended the Public Image Seminar at Ryde -Eastwood Leagues Club, West Ryde on Sunday. Thank you to Mandy Van, Garry Maloney and Mak Khalil who represented the Club at this worthwhile seminar. We look forward to hearing about the seminar and ideas for ways we can continue to build a positive public image in the local community. Fiona McCulloch from the District Public Image Committee will be guest speaker at a breakfast meeting on Friday 8 March. Fiona will help us further the conversation on developing the Club's public image.
The Thank You Breakfast for sponsors of the Carols on the Common will be held at Dunmore Lang College on Friday 1 March. The cost will be $20 for a cooked breakfast. This will be a great opportunity  to thank everyone who was involved in the Carols. Please let David Martin know if you cannot attend this breakfast by 9a.m Wednesday 28 February.
Two other events to keep in mind are the Book Sale on Saturday 23  March at North Ryde Public School and the North Ryde Fun Run on Sunday 25 August.
If you have good quality books, cds, or dvds to donate please hold on to them for the next week or so. We will organise a collection and sorting date and let you know soon when that will be. We also need paper carry bags or shopping bags (no plastic please) to place the books in when they are sold.
I am organising the committee for the 2019 North Ryde Fun Run. We  hope to meet in early March.  Please let me know if you are interested in being on the planning committee this year. We will be discussing these events and setting dates at the Board Meeting this Friday morning. Please note there is no club meeting this week. Our social event is the Trivia night for this month.
Kind regards
Pam Wood

An Invitation to Come Celebrate Rotary

Wishing you and your club members a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year.

I am inviting you and your members to be part of this fun evening of good food, good entertainment and above all good fellowship with Rotarians and non-Rotarians.

When: Saturday 2nd March

Where: Don Moore Community Centre North Rocks

Time: 7pm to 10:30pm

The funds raised from this evening will go towards the Sustainable Community Development Programs in India and Sri Lanka.

One of the project that we are currently working on is to refurbish the district hospital in Vavuniya that caters for close to 500K of people.   As an example, the hospital has 2 x 4 body chillers to preserve the dead for post mortem or until the family can claim the body.  One unit is totally out of use and the other working in such a state that you might as well turn this off.

Please call me when you are free and we can discuss this further.   I am also more than happy to come as a guest speaker to your club to speak about our projects in India and Sri Lanka.

Looking forward to your support for this event.  Here is the Facebook link to the event and please share this with your members and friends. -

Thank you

Yours in Rotary
