We had a good Board Meeting last Friday morning, during which we dealt with some important matters without going over time. We considered a Bullying and Harassment Policy which Rotary International wants all clubs to adopt, and the Board is happy to recommend that we do so.
We received a financial report from Sandeep which shows us to be in a good position, which means that we will be able to make worthwhile donations at the end of this Rotary year. We looked briefly at the upcoming IT Week (20-25 May), and arrangements seem to be falling into place. I hope that you have set aside the Thursday evening for our dinner with the students, as well as other times where you have volunteered to help.
You will have received an email from Pam concerning the need to complete a Rotary form if you will be looking after the visiting students at any time. We also looked briefly at our Changeover Dinner (22 June). It is always a good night, so I hope you can all come.
In addition it was good to have Juliet present at the meeting as our guest, and she updated us on the family involved in the severe house fire, as she will do for all of us this week. Remember that all members are welcome to attend Board meetings – just let me know if you wish to do so.
The 26 Annual Children's Festival - Circus Quirkus will be held at Blacktown Workers Club for thousands of special needs and disadvantaged children. The Rotary Club of Ryde is asking for help to support a group of less fortunate, terminally ill, severely disabled or disadvantaged children from our local area to attend this special event.
A world without polio is within our reach. Today we're on the brink of eradicating a human disease for only the second time in history.
Polio eradication is one of Rotary’s longest standing and most significant efforts.
There are fewer polio cases today than ever before, but we will not stop until we reach zero and we need you help to finish the job. Your donation can make a difference by helping us to:
Immunize 400 million children against polio every year
Improve surveillance systems to diagnose new cases and detect the poliovirus in the environment
Hire more than 150,000 health workers to find and vaccinate every child
If polio is not eradicated, hundreds of thousands of children could be paralyzed. Global health care costs would rise dramatically, and many children’s quality of life would be drastically diminished.
Your donation today will save lives and give a child a chance at a prosperous future.
“Polio is a disease that is preventable by a vaccine. If you can help make these vaccines available, it’s going to go a long way to help a lot of kids. Looking back on how me, my family and parents suffered, I don’t want anyone to ever suffer that.”
