Palmyre, our French Exchange student went sightseeing  in Sydney this past week. She is settling  in well thanks to the dedicated efforts of  Club Youth Chairperson, Pam Bennett and the hospitality of Anette Billington and Liane Corbett. We thank Annette and Liane for hosting her on her first few nights. We also thank her present host family the Vaz family for also helping her to settle in so well.

Preparations are going well for the August 25 North Ryde Fun Run, thanks to the Project Director Pam Wood and the team. Unfortunately, President Elect Mandy and myself will be away on the day.

Thanks to Rob Wilkinson ROMAC Board Chairman for years of serving ROMAC. Rob is stepping down in a few months to spend more time on his travel business.

A reminder that we have no meeting on August 16. The next meeting will be on Friday 23 August at Dunmore Lang College. This will be a working bee for the Fun Run.

An Update from Exchange Student Abigail in Germany
Hey it’s Abigail! I am currently over half way of my exchange year in Germany. I am enjoying it so much! It is honestly the best year of my life (so far). I just wanted to let you know that I am doing great here and making the most of my experience. I am improving on my German and building very strong relationships.

I am currently in my second host family and they are The absolute best host family ever! They are truly my second family. I love them so much and they are even trying to see if I can stay in this family until January.

My real family will be coming to Germany in September for a while and will be staying in cologne for about 5 days, where I can then meet with them and show them around a bit of Germany.

I am so thankful for you for sponsoring me and sending me on the best time of my life. Please feel free to ask me any questions about exchange.

Regards,
Abigail

Let's Join those Dam Rotarians in India - February 2020!
We invite you, your club members and families to join us in India in Feb. 2020, to participate in a Water Conservation project: the construction of a check-dam at the edge of the Thar Desert.

Note: Your club’s contribution to the project costs is not required, as it will be funded by a Global Grant from the Rotary Foundation, with generous DDF participation from RI Districts in Australia and USA.

Benefits

Check-dams, once built, require little or no maintenance or recurring costs.  Each year, the Dam will trap monsoon rainwater which otherwise flows away without benefitting the local people. The retained water will trickle down through the Earth’s layers to raise the Groundwater table in this area over the next few months: well in-time to boost crop production over a ten sq.km radius from the very next year - and for many decades ahead!

With one Masterstroke, this mega-project will strike at the core of social deprivation to provide:
Sustainable Incomes
Sanitation & Health
Education & Equal Opportunity

For Rotarians and their families, this project will provide a unique opportunity to:
Discover Incredible India
Connect the World
Make a Difference
Be the Inspiration for local communities

Centuries of failed crops had crushed the Will of the local people to participate in projects for the general good of their communities. Since 2010, Rotarians from around the world have joined us on these projects to help the local people for a few days in the construction these dams. Our hands-on participation, as well as the success of these projects, is changing this defeatist perception.

Many Rotarians have enjoyed these projects, and the connect with India, so much that they come year after year. Nearly twenty years ago,  when I traveled to India for the very first time to immunize children against polio, I found a part of my soul in Incredible India!  Each year since then, I have led these teams of Rotarians from all over the world for hands-on work on multiple projects in India. We have changed the lives of thousands of villagers. Our Lives, too, have been changed forever - by the warm welcome and rich traditions of the people of India that reveal ancient, abiding, universal Truths.

For those with a time constraint, one of the trip options includes only the Project section. For others who would like to explore more of the magic of India, a combination of extension tours is available before and after the project. The extension tours have been carefully crafted to present not only the fabled Art & Architecture of ancient India but also the Living Cultures of India today.

Please share the attached document with all the members of your club! Those who wish to join the project – please email the Trip Application before Sep. 15, 2019  to inbound@hipoints.com.
The Trip Application form is provided on the last two pages of the attached document.

We look forward to working with you on this fun project!
