Dear Club Members and Friends,
We had a beautiful morning for our social outing last Saturday at the Groundkeepers Cafe Ryde. There were 14 in our group and it was lovely to see Binoe again and meet Tinju and their lovely children. Thank you to David and Garry for organising our tables at the venue.
Following the breakfast, Garry and I attended
Epiphanes, a Musical Theatre Gala Concert at the Seymour Centre. It was a fantastic concert with the talented principals of Les Miserables, Rob McDougall, Kerrie Anne Greenland, Daniel Belle as the main performers with special guest performers Trevor Ashley, Patrice Tipoki and Naomi Livingston. Funds raised from the concert went to
Australian Rotary Health. It was exceptional value for money and a wonderful way to end a very enjoyable Saturday.
The Board met on Friday morning and along with other matters approved our
budget for the 2018-19 year (see here)and the
Country students DIGIT Visit for 2019. We also discussed the possibility of liaising with the
Rotary Clubs of Inverell and Forbes in some practical way to assist their communities affected by drought. Both clubs have been long term supporters of the DIGIT visits and are in areas that have been in drought for a long time. We hope to provide more information of how we can help soon.
With the AGM coming up on Friday 7 December we have a number of Board members happy to continue in their roles, but will need some new Board members as well. In particular we are still looking for a President-Elect for 2019-20. If you are interested in nominating for a position on the 2019-20 Board, please have a chat to myself, Mak Khalil or any of the current Board members.
The Tree of Joy has been installed at
Coxs Road Mall and is ready for donations of gifts for this Christmas. The BBQ and presentation of gifts will be on
Saturday 15 December, the day before the
Carols on the Common. There will be
no Rotary meeting on
Friday 14 December. If you can assist in collecting the gifts and placing them in storage
during the weeks prior to 15 December, please let
Annette Billington or Pat Perrin know.
I have registered a team for the
Rotary Club of North Ryde to participate in the
Waterline Challenge on Saturday 17 November (see story in this bulletin). We are meeting at the end of
Lucinda Road Marsfield at 8a.m. to walk Shrimptons Creek trail. We are hoping for 10 participants, or more, to
raise $200 each to go to ROMAC. Please let me know if you are interested in joining us or register online (see details).
This week we look forward to welcoming District Governor Susan Wakefield, Past District Governor John Wakefield and Assistant District Governor Julie Thorpe to our breakfast meeting. Along with hearing about our club's projects and activities, Susan and John will update us on District 9685 plans and events for the year.
Kind regards
Pam Wood
President 2018-19
