PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Rotarians and Friends

The Club has had a wonderful week welcoming our visitors from South Africa. As Keanu Arya Ryde City councillor said to me, “we welcomed a group from South Africa and we ended up embracing the world,” well said Keanu. We thank Councillor Keanu for his support throughout the week of the group from South Africa, but also for the 15 teams that were from Australia.

There were 600 attendees, with 53 teams and 25 countries represented at the Lego Robotics World Championship, held at Macquarie University this week. We were lucky enough to secure accommodation for the team from South Africa, at the Dunmore Lang College, Macquarie University. We thank Jim Boag, for his help with organising meals and accommodation for the teams. See photos here.

Peter and I will be attending some training meetings this week as we come together for the first time as presidents in the new Rotary year, we look forward to exchanging ideas with local presidents from other Rotary Clubs of our Group 2 Bradfield, District 9685, exchanging ideas and brainstorming /improving our membership numbers.

RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) team is well into the planning process to be held from the 10- 16 January 2027. If anyone has a person, they know who would benefit from this wonderful leadership course for the 18- to 30-year-old age bracket please let Peter, Mandy or I know and we can arrange to have our Rotary Club of North Ryde sponsor them for the RYLA week. Mandy and I have a meeting on Thursday night with the Youth liaison officer Bass Bhaskaran, online and we look forward to hearing what is being planned for the year ahead. See here for more information.

This Friday is our Club assembly breakfast meeting at Dunmore Lang College 7:15am for a 7:30am start and we look forward to seeing our Club members there.

It's hard to believe that we're about to start Term 3 of the school season and we wish all the students a happy term and all the grandparents can now relax and have a cup of tea and put your feet up.

The District conference next year is on March 12-14 March 2027.  We are hoping to have as many of our Club members attend, at the Parklands Resort Mudgee. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet friends and establish lasting communication. Look at the website from District 9685 conferences and take advantage of the early bird registrations. For more information see here.

 Till next time.

Save the Date - 2026 Carols on the Common 13 December
This year's Carols on the Common will be held on Sunday 13 December at the North Ryde Common from 5.00-9.30pm.  The 2026 Carol on the Common Committee is meeting next Thursday 23 July at 7pm at the Crowne Plaza North Ryde. Once again the City of Ryde has provided a generous grant to enable the committee to start booking infrastructure and resources for the Carols. We already have commitment from our wonderful sponsors Bendigo Community Bank Homebush and North Ryde; Cox's Road Mall and many of our sponsors from last year to support the Carols again this year.
If you are interested in sponsoring the Carols the sponsorship packages are available from the Carols on the Common website www.carolsonthecommon.org.au
We will also be calling for volunteers to assist with the many tasks required both before, during and after which make the Carols a very successful community event. If you are interested in volunteering at the Carols, please contact me by email woodmal50@hotmail.com or by mobile 0400803417.

District 9685 Club Development Champion Update - Issue 1

I have received the following information from District Governor Michele Ellery. Similar resources and idea will be shred throughout the year, to help keep members informed, connected and engaged in Rotary. The updates will be aiming to encourage greater participation, strengthen club leadership, and ensure members are aware of the many opportunities Rotary offers.

In this first edition, you'll find information on:

  • Rotary Learning Institute (RLI) – Discover the value of RLI courses for both new and experienced members. RLI provides engaging learning opportunities that help members better understand Rotary, develop leadership skills, and become even more involved in their clubs and communities.
  • Setting Club Goals in My Rotary – Learn how club leaders and boards can establish and monitor goals using My Rotary's Goal Centre (formerly Rotary Club Central), helping clubs plan for success and measure their impact.
  • Rotary Action Groups and Fellowships – Explore the many Action Groups and Fellowships available to Rotarians. These offer members the opportunity to connect with others who share similar professional expertise, hobbies and service interests while expanding Rotary's global network.

Regards

Pam Wood
