Hello everyone,
I hope you are all well and enjoying this crisp weather and gorgeous days.

We have had a wonderful time bringing the students to Sydney from Forbes and Inverell for the DIGIT week. Congratulations must go to David Martin for the months of work coordinating this event. It was, by all accounts, an enjoyable and inspiring week for the students. Thank you to Pete, and the helpers throughout the week from both our club, and the Rotary Club of Epping.

Every day was jam packed, and the number of times Pete had to count heads was enormous. Each company bought a unique take on IT. The students were given information on Robots, coding, programming, and initiating computer programs, into the workplace. Implementation of these programs was demonstrated in practical hands-on projects. The people from each company were enthusiastic and listened to all the questions the boys asked. Giving an enormous amount of time and knowledge to help guide the students to a possible career path in the future.

Macquarie University tour was particularly interesting to Ben Boyd, our house guest. He has a friend coming to the university next year to do Astronomy science. Ben felt that he could take the knowledge back to his friend, as to what to expect, and how huge the university is. Ben was particularly taken with the facilities available at the Macquarie University for their students.

The students were also excited to receive goodie bags from most of the companies. The Coles Distribution centre was a particular highlight. Most want to “work” at Google because of all the perks. I don’t think they got how much work you must do to enjoy these perks.

Pete managed to tire out the boys at the end of each day. I am sure they slept well when they all got home. I know he did.
We have concluded our eFun run, and Pam Wood and the team will get all the facts and stats together for reporting. I am so very grateful to all those who became involved this year, and I am confident that we can only improve every year on our community awareness and participation in the future.

Regards
Bernie.

The 2024 DIGIT Tour
The 2024 DIGIT Tour  commenced on Sunday evening 12 May when 8 students interested in a career in IT arrived from Inverell and Forbes. The High School students were billeted to families from the Rotary Clubs of North Ryde and Epping for the week.

The students started their tour on Monday attending sessions at Cochlear, Oracle, the Department of Home Affairs and Coles Distribution Centre at Eastern Creek. Tuesday was a train day travelling to UTS Library to view the Retrieval System, then onto Cisco and IBM. Wednesday was also a train day where the students were taken to Google the a ferry ride to the city for lunch followed by a visit to Microsoft, The day was concluded with bowling and laser tag courtesy of Strike Bowling Macquarie Centre.

Thursday was the final day of touring which included walking around the local area to Macquarie University. Time was set aside in the afternoon to prepare presentations of their week's tour at the Riding for the Disabled, Marsfield Centre. This was followed by dinner and a showcase of their week to members, host families and friends at RDA. The students were taken to the trains for their journey home on Friday morning by Rotarians Brian Bailey and Binoe Verghese.

This valuable project would not have been possible without the meticulous planning of David Martin and the wonderful assistance from Peter Mason, Mandy Van, Brian Bailey and Garry Maloney who helped with supervising the students throughout the tour. We would also not have been able to organise the tour without the host families who generously opened their homes to the students for the week. Thank you to Narelle Barker, John and Eszter Fenessy, Bruce Jacob and Louise Prentice, Susie and Stephen Llewelyn, Terrie and Mark McConnell, Brian and Sue Bailey and Peter and Bernie Mason.

Our thanks also goes to the wonderful businesses and companies, mentioned above, that welcomed the students and provided interesting sessions for the students and to Riding for the Disabled and Strike Bowling Macquarie Centre for their generous support of the program.

The 2024 eFun Run for Youth Mental Health - A great success!

The 2024 eFun Run for Youth Mental Health is now closed. Congratulations and thank you to everyone who participated or supported the eFun Run this year. We have now closed the campaign and are delighted with the total amount of funds raised which is just over $14000.

The Board will be meeting next Tuesday evening to finalise the distribution of these funds. We were delighted to have the Rotary Clubs of Ryde and Macquarie Park partner with his this year along with Macquarie University Lifespan Health and Wellbeing Research Centre. This enabled the eFun Run to have a broader number of participants and supporters this year.

Thank you also to the Rotary Clubs of Epping and Kenthurst for their support. Thanks also to Federal MP, Jerome Laxale; State MP, Jordan Lane and City of Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown for their support this year.
