President's Message

Dear  Club Members and Friends,

We had a lovely social night at Cafe Jolly in Leichhardt last Friday evening. There were 10 guests from our club who attended and all agreed the food was delicious and very affordable  It was a great opportunity to meet our exchange student from Finland, Helmiina Salila, who had arrived on the Sunday beforehand. Helmiina is very excited to be here for the year and will be staying with the Buick family for the first part of her exchange. Samantha Buick was our outbound exchange student last year.

Thank you to Annette Billington who hosted Helmiina for the first week after her arrival and also to Terrie McConnell who helped Annette and Helmiina with enrolment into Ryde Secondary College where she will attend school for the next 12 months.

Our guest speaker at this week's breakfast meeting  is Stephen Galilee from the NSW Minerals CouncilFriday 10 August will be a Club Assembly where we will look at the feedback from the surveys and plans for the year ahead.

With a little over 3 weeks to go until the Fun Run, there is still many tasks to be done. Thank you to everyone who has offered to help on the day. The banners are up thanks to Victoria Crawford. The next task is to deliver the flyers and posters around the community. I will be sending around a spreadsheet for people to volunteer to do letterbox drops. Macquarie University Physiotherapy and Medical Health and Wellbeing Collaboration program (HAWC)

To whom it may concern,

I am the clinical educator for physiotherapy and medical students at Macquarie University and as part of the program our first year students visit a volunteer in the community who have any medical condition/s.

The students visit the volunteers either at home or can arrange to meet them at the university and visit as a pair. They would see their volunteers approximately 4 times across the semester starting at the end of August.

The students practice skills they are learning in class such as taking a medical history, talking to their volunteer about their previous or current interactions/experiences with healthcare and practice basic assessment measures.

We wondered if any of your members would be interested in being volunteers for this program? If so I have attached the FAQs for the program as well as the Expression of Interest Form if they wanted to be involved. We call any interested people to discuss the program and answer any questions. I would also love to be able to come along to any meetings that you run to recruit volunteers if this was appropriate. The online Expression of Interest is at the following link: https://mqedu.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_2gBZ3i7QBSGjWIJ

As part of the program the students also get involved with some volunteering opportunities in the community themselves particularly if it relates to healthcare. If you had any suggestions for this we would also be interested.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Kind Regards

Jacque.
