District Assembly

 

Last Sunday, nine Club members attended District 9685's Assembly at the none too shabby Kings School in Parramatta. Attendance was up compared to recent years past and it was good to see so many of our own club giving up most of Sunday.

 

'Be A Gift To The World' is incoming RI President Ravi Ravindran's theme for the coming year but the Assembly was low on aspiration and inspiration and focused very much on mundane matters of governance - which Assemblies tend to focus on. 

 

Child Protection was featured and, among other things, I discovered that the old NSW Police checks were now worthless. Anyone in Rotary that needs to work with children will need to obtain a Working With Children Check from the Office of The Children's Guardian. The Club is nearly there so let's complete the task for those who have not yet done so!

 

Fundraising Protocols were covered again. We were all reminded of the need for Rotarians to wear their name badges when collecting from the public. The Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing has some very tough guidelines about how clubs need to account for charitable donations and everyone needs to acquaint themselves with those guidelines.

 

I am sure that individual club members who attended specialist sessions during the Assembly will provide feedback to the club on matters of significance at the next regular club meeting.
