More than 27,000 strokes will be experienced by Australians this year – that is one stroke every 19 minutes. But the good news is that it doesn't need to be this way. Up to 80 percent of strokes are preventable.
Associate Professor Caleb Ferguson is a Sydney based StrokeSafe Speaker and cardiovascular disease researcher. So, while he will present common information about stroke and its prevention, he will also draw on his own experiences as a researcher which makes his talk different – and very powerful.

Caleb's talk will cover:
  • What stroke is – What happens when someone is having a stroke and the different types of stroke.
  • How to recognise the signs of stroke – Learn the vital FAST signs which will help you recognise when someone is having a stroke.
  • What to do if someone is having a stroke – If you or someone else experiences the signs of stroke, no matter how long they last, call 000 immediately.
  • How to prevent stroke – Steps that can be taken to better understand and reduce the risk of having a stroke.
The meeting will be held at Piato Restaurant 123 Blues Point Road, McMahons Point at 7:00 am for 7:15 a.m. start. We finish promptly at 8:30 a.m.  At about 7:30 a.m., Caleb will talk for about 30 minutes, followed by questions and breakfast is served during the talk.
